This is truly a beautiful park complete with friendly deer. Visit the fort and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
The museum was closed but we did enjoy walking the grounds. It's a lovely park like setting. Lots of interesting historical markers to read.
This small museum actually was the first piece of civilization in Nevada. It was a store that had supplies for those pioneers who had made it across the desert and were now contemplating heading over the Sierra Nevada mountains. The museum had lots of historical memorabilia and was quite interesting. I love history so felt I added to my knowledge. The cost is $1 per person. There are no bathroom facilities in this museum.
Lynne, the guide, does a terrific job of taking you through the history of Genoa making many of the characters of the past come to life. She will spend as much time as you like showing you everything inside. It is well worth the nominal $1 to give you a real sense of the 1850's and why Genoa was such an important stop on the way to the California gold mines.
Very mush of interest and the workers were so helpful and nice.....So much to learn about the Mormons and and how the got there .All the pictures were very telling of the life they lived too.
Very Nice historical information, cool shade to enjoy under the summer sun. What's not to like! Modest admission fee.!!!
This is a tiny little museum, but more than worth a stop and the princely sum of $1 to see the displays. The staff was unusually knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history and stories of the pioneers that came here. Their information and friendliness made this a memorable stop. Linger awhile underneath the big tree and contemplate the feeling the travelers had before they started their wagons up the Sierras!
This is a nice addition to the museum across the street. I liked the stories the park staff told me about the fact that people would trade their exhausted oxen for fresh ones at this station. Learned some other interesting facts about the Mormons.
Friendly staff ready to share their great knowledge. The park is a well-used and pretty place. The history was interesting--a Pony Express stop.
This is a pleasant park with a small but interesting historical museum. It comes alive on special events such as the Geno Cowboy Festival in early May. This festival brings in some of the best cowboy music, vendors, and also some cowboy poetry for three days. This like this year (2014) is our favorite time to visit. There are historic buildings that are in this area.In addition, this park is nice for a picnic.
Enjoy music at the Mormon Station State Park, The Carson City Chambers Singers, The Reno Philharmonic Symphony , many more events that brings your 4th of July to life. So many talented musicians, Entertainers, will perform for you, free of charge.
step back in time and appreciate that we have these parks, they supply us with knowledge that otherwise may be forever lost.
A lot to see for a quaint little town. Well worth the time for a visit, and don't forget the cemetery, or the oldest saloon in Nevada.
This mall state park is a great place to spend an hour or so looking around. Parking is free and is the use of the park. There are great new picnic tables and BBQ pits. There is even a grand gazebo for large groups and events such as weddings. The restrooms are super clean and nice and not all stinky!
Small and cozy park in the heart of Genoa. Interesting to read about the wagon trains. get a sandwich from the deli or an ince cream and set awhile.
