We rode the RMLT and out and back to the Hoover Dam. About 75KM of distance and 4,000ft (1,200M) or cumulative vertical. With November temperatures 32C, definitely for the intermediate+ cyclist.
What a great trail to access the river. Lots of wild life to see and plant life to see and take pictures and just have some fun!
It was HOT! But it was beautiful. Bring plenty of water if you are biking during the day. I was surprised at how much I was challenged but I enjoyed the scenery and the area.
We only got to ride part of the loop, but I'm looking forward to eventually revisiting the area and getting to ride the whole thing. The path was great, well-maintained, and very scenic. We were out riding at 6:00 AM in August to beat the heat. If we had been out much later it would have been pretty uncomfortable.
I had the experience to travel the 26 Mile Success Loop that is Located a few miles from Ely, NV yesterday The Loop is located of the Great Basins Highway, You turn at the sign that says Cave Lake and travel 7 miles on a paved road the Success Loop starts were the pavement ends. This is a dirt road that travels up and over the Mountain Range, The road is fairly smooth no need for a 4 wheel drive this time of year. A passenger car would have no problems if it not to low to the ground. The wild flowers and views are something to see. There is Elk, Deer, and Mountain Lions in the area and the best time to view them is in the early evening hours. The dirt road continues up over the mountain to the valley on the other side were the pavement begins again and ends at Highway 93 were you turn left to get back to Ely, NV.
As an area resident, I can access this awesome trail within just a few miles of my Henderson residence. Therefore, I have ridden every aspect of the trail many times in both directions for shorter and longer rides. From my door round trip is 42 miles, but for the road bikers who don’t think much of this distance--just consider that I ride a steel frame mountain bike. My kind of riding is for fitness conditioning and safety so this is my preference. Although the trail is paved, there is plenty of gravel and debris that can cause loss of traction if you aren't cautious. Unless you are on a road bike, prepare for at least a three hour ride to do the whole loop.Be prepared to meet your highest challenge on the famous “Three Sisters” hill sequence as it is steep and long in rapid succession. Both the “Sisters” and the views are breathtaking! I am not a "fair weather" or seasonal cyclist so I enjoy this trail year round. Start at sunrise in the summer and take plenty of water and an emergency tire repair kit. A flat on a remote section of this trail would not be fun without a spare. The loop is scenic and variable. Occasionally, Desert Big Horn Sheep can be seen from the trail. During cycling season the trail gets pretty busy on the weekends so I prefer the safety of weekday riding.
Long 20 mile +bike ride on well-paved trail with stunning views. Worth the challenge for bikers visiting Vegas. Can also do parts of the trial as plenty of options to loop off the trail to stop and eat at Lake las Vegas, Railroad Casino and Boulder City.
I ride this trail going back and forth to work. It can be very challenging in places but it provides a bike rider with plenty of difficulty and, at the right time of year, fun. It has a clear view of Lake Mead for a large portion of it.
We brought our bikes with us to Vegas in February, planning to ride around Red Rock, but decided to take this trail instead. We typically ride our road bikes 25-35 miles at a time, so this 34 miles sounded fine. Starting in Henderson (at Equestrian and Foothills), we rode clockwise to Lake Las Vegas, Lake Mead, Boulder City, and back to Henderson. Our starting point had water and restrooms. There are a few good grades near the beginning, and beautiful views all the way around. The paths are paved and in excellent condition. I was glad we were descending from the Lake Las Vegas area to Lake Mead, as there are some fairly steep slopes. We refilled water in a parking lot near Lake Mead, and had lunch. The trip up from Lake Mead to Boulder City was quite a few miles, at a fairly constant grade. Every time we thought we were at the top, there was another rise beyond... We were quite tired by the time we got back to our car, and very glad we had "mild" (high 70's) temperatures for the ride. This would not be a ride I'd do in the summer, but I would definitely do it again!
On our visit to Las Vegas, we stopped at a bike shop and asked about biking trails. So happy they told us about this one. We drove to Lake Mead National Recreation Area and went to the visitor center first. They had a map of the bike trail, which is paved and only for non-motorized traffic. First we rode the Historic Railroad Trail, which goes through 5 tunnels, to the Hoover Dam. (this trail is gravel, but we had no trouble with our road bikes). Then we left the visitor center and rode the River Mountain Loop Trail along Lake Mead. Since we did not have enough time (or energy) to do the whole loop, we just rode out 7 miles and back again. Beautiful scenery of the lake and desert with gently rolling hills. Never got to the sections with bigger hills. Next time....
This paved trail multi-use trail whips 36 miles around east Henderson and by Lake Mead. Though mostly used by cyclists, walking and hiking is also common. There are parking areas along the trail and using one of them is a good way to park outside of the Lake Mead NRA and travel in. Locals have their favorite parts of the trail and it may be a bit too much for a hiker to do in one day. The main trail passes many spur trails which lead up into the mountains or follow nearby railway routes. A crude map is available at the visitor center in Boulder City, but this facility is generally closed on weekends. So search on-line first. A popular spur, just outside the Lake Mead entry station in Boulder City, leads through a series of old railroad tunnels and then on to Hoover Dam via the roof of the parking structure. Try it!
This trail is very long and very hilly. As an older biker, I find it very difficult. But the section from Boulder City to Lake Mead isn't too bad, even if coming back up is a killer.
If you like to ride bikes, then you simply cannot miss this amazing ride. An utterly magnificent 31-mile paved bike loop on the outskirts of Las Vegas, about a 20 minute easy drive from the Strip. You can rent a car and park in the parking lot of the River Mountains Bike Shop. The manager is Darryn Padfield, an extremely friendly, knowledgable, and helpful person. Pick up a carbon road bike and get ready to enjoy mile after mile of gently winding desert/mountain/lake beauty. The loop meanders around Lake Mead, and then courses through Boulder City, with gentle ups and downs. Lots of places to rest/refuel/rehydrate along the way. Perfect for the beginner rider. There is also access to a nest of mountain biking trails near Boulder City (Bootleg canyon). Also, you can do a brief hike to the Hoover Dam along the way, and can also swim in Lake Mead if you want. Magnificent!
This is a newly surfaced bike only road that loops around the mountain. It is a beautiful ride - if you like desert landscape. Its not for beginners but you can go part way and turn around. The full loop is 40 miles of some steep climbs. Fun, but real exercise.
We came from Northern Nevada and fortunately had our bicycles. What a beautiful well maintained trail. We entered from Equestrian Park and loved the ride toward Boulder City and views of Lake Mead. It was one of the best bike rides I have done this year. Everyone on trail was friendly and were happy to give us advice. Very smooth surface and loved the mile markers. I hope to come back some day and ride more. It can be done in sections or a 34 mile loop. Wonderful views. Bring your own water, but there are places to get some.
