Jack C. Davis Observatory is at Western Nevada College at Carson City. The facility has three telescopes. There are free star gazing parties here as well as free lectures and other events. There are also tours of the facilities. The Planetary Walkway connects the main campus with the observatory. This is a nice place to walk as there are good views of the Carson City area. It is also a memorial walk. There are nice rock sculptures of the different planets along the pathway. The observatory was built by inmates from thee Carson City prison.
it is open to the public on Saturday nights. The astronomy professor and club members love sharing the telescopes and talking about the cosmos. Their enthusiasm and vast knowledge is infectious.
This place is great for a small town observatory. There's a very active star-gazing community in Carson City and the college hosts a regular weekly speaker at the observatory. The lectures are interactive and very interesting and, usually, pertinent to some current event. Kudos!
