Don't miss this gem...it's the best shape and a fun and dynamic challenge. You will love the back 9 views... The best in the Carson Valley
Played this place last week and also a year ago. We had the same complaints about surly employees. My husband got a hole in one (his first! Maybe only...who knows?) with only a grunt as a response from the old guy working in the pro shop. This time it was very different - everyone super-friendly, even though no one had a hole in one. I chatted an employee up and found out that ownership changed in January. A ha! Much better. My tips? Play as early as you can in the summer. It gets hot! Use the helpful guide they give you for each hole-lotsa times you're hitting blind. And save energy for #10 (the longest hole).
Didn't bring my clubs and those they rented were really bad clubs. Over all for this time of year was in pretty good shape. Staff were cordial.
It's a very difficult course and not as well maintained as it should be...that being said, we had fun. It's not only challenging, it's downright impossible on some of the holes! You have to brace yourself on the side of a hill to make a shot you can't possibly see. Nice little golf shop and lunch room with beer and wine.
We played this course on an absolutely beautiful day. The course was in great shape, not crowded at all. The people in the pro shop were friendly and helpful. No wind on this day, couldn't have been better. Some very challenging holes, bring your best game.
Breathtaking views and challenging holes ! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A must play Course !
Sunridge is a spactular layout that has been under cared for in recent years. Lack of revenue has hampered the proper upkeep, but regardlelss it is a terrific design and offers some of the beet views of the surrounding mountains and the entire Carson Minden Valley area. It has recently be purchased by a investment firm that has committed to spending $90,000 for sod for fairways and has committed to increase course workkers from 3 to 10 to get the couses back to good conditions by late spring of this year. I play it often because I like the layout and I forgive the imperfections..Green fees are amoung the lowest in the Tahoe Carson City area and playing this course is a treat now,,,I can hardly wait for the improvements to take place. If you are in the area and want to play a fun course with very friendly staff...make it a must. Mike
Went to play with a friend. What a mess. Course design is terrible. The course if in horrible condition. I would not play this ourse for free.
We played th course on 8/22/12 and it was in poor condition due to the lake of snow during the winter thus little water. The back nine is very difficult for average golfers like us and was not an enjoyable outing.
We decided to go to Sunridge based on the online pictures vs going to Dayton Valley (windy and far from our end destination) Sunridge was closer to our end destination so it was convenient. The personnel at the course were very courteous and helpful. The course design and layout is great. The very sad part of the whole thing is that the course is not in very good condition. I can imagine this place in pristine condition and it would be a fantastic course to play. I also don't want to discourage people from using this course as it would only get worse from lack of income...sadly, it needs lots of TLC but is a good track none the less. Water hazards come into play on lots of holes, target golf on several holes, medium size greens and elevation changes are dramatic and fun.
Easy to get on without much of a wait, fantatic views and enough difficulty to give you a good challange.ps please don't hit my house!
We loved playing Sunridge. It was in pretty good shape, good greens, great views, and so challenging. You drive up to the top of a mountain for some holes, and you drive/hit down below. We had a very good time. We played another course in the area that was basically a cow pasture, so this was a big surprise as we expected another pasture. It was reasonable too, just call and ask for their specials. . It is very close to David Walley's Hot Springs resort where we were staying. It was very challenging, but a lot of fun to play.
I rated this course very good because asthetically it is an nice course with an interesting layout. Unfortunately, I must rate the maintenance and manicuring of the course to be poor. This is a fun, challenging course to play however, it is not maintained or manicured which is sad because with a lot of TLC, this can be a beautiful course. My wife and I felt as if we were playing in a hay field. We paid the senior's rate of $35 each which included a cart; we don't feel it is worth any more than that. The front 9 is sort of flat while the back 9 has interesting evation changes on just about every hole. There are 5 sets of tees, the forward 2 are for seniors and/or women. There are a lot of holes that require forced carries even from the 2 sets of forward tees. Unless a woman or senior is a long hitter, this course can be difficult. Water comes into play on about 9 holes, and with the forced carries, unless you know the layout of the course you will lose a lot of golf balls. This course needs GPS on the carts that shows the layout of the holes as well as yardage to carry the water and the forced carries. The sand is more like gravel so you may want to rethink hitting out of the bunkers. One bunker was so let go the weeds inside of it came up to my knees. While the asthetics of this course are great we cannot recommend it to our friends unless it is brought back into its original condition. We hope the owners don't give up on this course, it can be the hidded gem of Carson City if given a lot of TLC.
