So i went in for a meeting today and I had never been on the second floor. It is really cool with old photos and displays. This is where the original legislature meet 100 years ago. Building is open to the public. Just stop in and head up to the second floor. It will be very clear as to what are offices in use and what you can just walk into and look around.
Nice informative displays in a lovely building. Grounds are very lush and green - a good place to just relax.
The grounds were beautiful and easy to navigate with our double stroller. It seemed that while we were walking the grounds many employees were out and many of them were smoking on the grounds, which made it hard for us to enjoy being outside by all the beautiful trees, green grass, and flowers.
This was an excellent place to visit during our stay in Carson City. We were with a group whose organizers arranged a docent-guided tour of the building. Not only is it beautiful, it has some beautiful art, amazing displays and you can tour their old Supreme Court Room. The Nevada State officials continue to work here, so you may have an opportunity to stop by and say hello to the governor and the other State officials if they're not busy! Rich in history, lots to learn, don't miss it!
The Carson City Capitol Complex is a very nice place to walk under the trees. There are beautiful plants. The Nevada Supreme Court, the legislative buildings, and the capitol, etc. are all on the grounds. There are statues. There is one for Kit Carson, a trailblazer. Carson City is named after him. There are memorials to fallen peace officers and to US veterans. It is a very nice place to visit (albeit a bit quiet the day we visited as it was a muggy rainy end of July day).We parked on the street - 2 hour parking permitted; no charge.
Beautiful grounds, always quiet, shady (great in summer and fall), a little history scattered around. Some interesting statues in the actual complex. Check out the U.S.S. Nevada Memorial.
This is the smallest or second smallest state capital building in the country. It struck me also that they do not get a lot of tourists visiting. We called to double check hours at the number on the website and it seemed to be a mystery to the folks we talked to. The museum at the south of the capital was interesting. It takes about a half hour to visit if you spend time in the museum.
Nice visit to get a glimpse of Nevada history as well as current legislative facilities. Security guards are so friendly and welcoming. Well worth a trip.
The Capitol area is lovely with old well-kept buildings, lawns and shade. Didn't have a chance to go into any of the buildings but enjoyed a stroll around the grounds.
The halls of the old capitol are lined with displays from the beginning of the Territory to statehood. They even have a rope cutting used in the hanging of Julia Boulet's murderer. A good place to visit on a hot day. The Carson City Mint is just across the street and the State Railroad museum is just a mile or so south. There's much to be seen in the immediate area --- have fun.
Like Carson City itself, the Capitol building is simple, easy to negotiate and friendly to visitors. A pamphlet of info is provided and you can walk around at your leisure, looking at the art and architecture.
The grounds are so grown up it's hard to get a picture of the building. Not much to see, but it is a part of history so a must. Small museum inside.
Great short visit. Very nice grounds if you are looking for somewhere to eat a sack lunch. Has a walking tour (get brochure from security inside) that takes you around the first and second floors. Much history displayed amongst working offices. Don't miss the frieze around the top of the walls on the first floor. It shows many things unique to Nevada including 21 of the state's prominent minerals. Free parking outside the iron fence. Must walk to the front of the building to get in. The side entrance is not for the public.
The heart of Carson City and a shining example of capitol city charm and majesty. The complex is beautiful without being gaudy or extravagant. I enjoy walking through the senate lawn and enjoying lunch or taking a few minutes to read a book under the many trees that blanket the site with cooling shade.
The capital building is beautiful. We wandered in and were welcomed by the friendly guard, who invited us to look around. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful.
