Much to see and learn. Very well informed staff willing to share knoweldege. Could have spent much longer.
Even tho I am not a car buff, I enjoyed my visit. We were fortunate enough to join a docent tour. The collection is larger than I realized and the information overwhelming. I would say the collection is skewed toward older cars--many makes and models I had not heard of before. History comes to life as the museum also includes old gas pumps. clothing of the time periods, photos and stories of auto races, etc.Easy parking.Use the restroom when you are 'inside' the collection. The restrooms in the foyer hallway are locked and I did not want to bother to get a key.
When my friends and I came into the building, we were on edge about whether we wanted to go into the museum. The staff member in the gift shop was very helpful to decribe exactly what was in the museum and what we would be able to look forward to. He did an excellent job convincing us that it would be worthwhile to go in. Fortunately he was right. it was a wonderful collection of vehicles from some of the very first vehicles moving chronologically to the 1960's and 70's. There was also an additional collection that had som unique vehicles of more recent vintage. There were also some one-of-a-kind experimental cars on display that were fun to see. Well worth the time and money. I would give 1.5-2.5 hours to go through the museum, depending on how much you want to read.
This place rocks. We love the cars here. It is a great collection with many cars you don't find elsewhere.
Visited this place with my teen son, he had a great time to read throughout all the information. We actually stayed there almost 3 hrs. Lots of antique cars collection and in great condition. Information are very clear. Worth for the visit even you are not into cars.
Even if you are not into cars these will be of interest. It is like a trip back into time, think Downton Abbey cars, what must it have been like. This is a great little side attraction to send an hour or so while in Reno. Recommended.
I couldn't think of a better place for viewing beautiful old cars and some motorcycles. They've done a fantastic job recreating old-time streets and buildings. Maybe there are places with more cars, but not with this ambience and on the river, too. There is an amphitheater and a gift shop. I especially like going there for special events and fundraisers.
Vintage cars are just not my thing but it is my husband's. So when my uncle and husband wanted to go, we (gals) went reluctantly along but what a fascinating museum. Excellent exhibits with hand held devises to listen to each car or only the ones you are interested in.
This is a great little spot to visit. If you were lucky enough to see the original Harrah's Automobile Museum in its old location, does not compare. Having seen the original as a child many times when we came to town to visit, I was never impressed with the new until I saw it through the eyes of someone who loved cars and motorcycles and had never seen the place. I then realized what a treasure this place truly is. The history of the cars and motorcycles are amazing. Very well done indeed.
This is a great place to visit. My wife and I enjoyed the diorama style of display. Nice collection.
Great collection of classic cars! Anyone who worked for the auto industry will be delighted with the display. Don't miss it!
The whole family can spend a couple of hours strolling among the cars. Very interesting and fun place even if your not into old cars
I brought my 12 and 14 year old kids and spent a few hours wandering around and reading. It's available for special events and birthday parties which would be a lot of fun!
If you would like to step away from the gambling (or vacation) for a afternoon I highly recommend visiting the National Automobile Museum! This is one of the finest collections of automobiles I have seen all under one roof. A nice walk from downtown along the Reno riverwalk will get you there. The core of the collection belonged to Bill Harrah and the museum is reminiscent of Harrah's collection that used to be housed in Las Vegas at the Imperial Palace Hotel. The collection is divided into 4 sections easily showing the history of the automobile in America. All of the employees who I believe are volunteers do a great job and are very friendly and informative! I recommend the free narrated tour that gives so much more detail and walks you through each of the four sections. Don't miss this excursion.
With very little cost involved, the whole family can find things to enjoy for an afternoon or evening. Within walking distance from Downtown Hotels, here's a non-casino alternative that's a winner any time of year.
