Beautiful park full of lush trees and plenty of picnic shelters. The Fun Park is a great place for kids to run around Old Fountain, restrooms, horse shoe pit , swimming pool Great place for a family get together.
The only time I've visited this park has been during their annual Fourth of July Antique and Flea Market. It is a wonderful setting for such a fun time. The park has a wonderful old fountain in its center and there may be 100 vendors in all including some funnel cake and Grandpa's Snowballs (sno-cones). The vendors set up in the grassy area and along the main roadway and they are open to bargaining, etc. There are kids' playground equipment as well as bathrooms on the property which is just a few blocks from town. We've gone to the show about four out of the last five years or so and have always enjoyed it. The local people are very friendly and welcoming during this time and at night there is a fireworks display although we haven't stayed for it. There are usually a few classic cars/trucks at the show. A really good time for family on the 4th of July.
Enjoy the park with your family, the fun park (play ground) is loved by all. Also several other things to see and do.
When you enter the park you can see the beautiful huge trees, green grass, fountain, picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, swimming pool, restrooms, all things you would expect to find in a small town park. Then you see the children's play area. Wow! I've never seen anything like it. It is huge with multiple levels and play areas, built mostly of wood, kind of like an old western fort. I believe it could easily accommodate dozens of children at one time without being overcrowded. Only problem I could see would be getting them to want to leave at the end of the day. Fairbury can be proud of their fine city park. Can't wait to bring my grandchildren for a play date.
Parks are very nice and very clean. So pretty and peaceful. We saw families of ducks swimming and quacking, sounds of birds was so peaceful. The playgrounds for the kiddo's was fun. I wish we had such nice parks in my city. The only problem I had was the flies.
The park is a well maintained cool oasis within walking distance of the central business district. Mature trees provide good shade and the central part of the park is like being in another more relaxed time. Entrance is via a nice boulevard and the park is overlooked by the requisite World War II tank. The baseball field is undergoing renovation and was at one time the home of a minor league baseball team in the Nebraska State League. For those who want more fun for kids, the park has a nice swimming pool, an ensemble of softball fields and for the golf buffs there is a self service driving range. A nice park in a clean town, a park you would expect in a much bigger city.
From the shade of the large trees to the kid's play fort, this park is the best to unwind over lunch.
No trip to Fairbury would be complete without a cruise through the Fairbury City Park, located just west of downtown on 5th street. Every year on July 4th, there is a huge flea market that draws hundreds of vendors and thousands of people. There is also a very nice softball complex, baseball field, a vintage water fountain and a HUGE wooden play park for kids. The public swimming pool is also there, plus a driving range, horseshoe pits and picnic shelters. Lots of big beautiful trees provide plenty of shade on hot summer days!
