My 10-year-old son LOVED this tour. The staff at Hornady is THE BEST. You can tell they all love their job, their bosses, their company. It's a short tour (less than an hour) with lots to see, including game mounted on the walls from all over the world. Some of the tour was hard to hear because of the crazy noisy machines and you are wearing ear plugs, but it was beyond cool. We got to see the bullet factory, shooting ranges where they test the bullets, and everything in between. If you love hunting, GO ON THIS FREE TOUR!
If you like ammo and learning how things are made, this is for you! The people at Hornady are super friendly, helpful, and the tour was great. It gives you a whole new perspective on ammo and the American dream. Three generations of this family have run this factory. They have their big game mounts for pictures, but no pictures in the factory. Our guide (Jen) was full of information and made us feel at ease going through the factory. Call for a reservation and be sure to wear close toed shoes. Give yourself 30 minutes to an hour and enjoy!
Great "quick" overview/visit/tour - on how they make millions of bullets here every week. Now working 24/7 and paying overtime - they have a 2 year backlog of orders. AND, they are up'ing the production rate of their fastest movers' in rifle and pistol calibers by re-tasking part of their mfg machines. They are shipping 3 full semi's daily now, with almost another via UPS here in the USA to smaller orders; that is over 150,000 lbs per day! This is a "walking" tour...lots of steps and it can be hot in some of the plant areas. Sorry, no free samples...Even employees have to have permission to PURcHASE any .223 ammo now!
We really enjoyed our tour. Danielle did an excellent job and really seems to like her job. The tour included the offices & engineering, where there are a wide variety of animals mounted. Also the macine shop, quality control, shipping & actually on the manufacturing floor. Even in to the basement where the rounds are fired for testing. You can see the projectile through its various processes, but not the actual loading, for obvious reasons. Will stop by again next time we're in the area.
