new tasting rm next to Jack London Square ferry is light/airy/beautiful but I miss the funky ambiance of the original in Alameda. staff are very friendly & knowledgeable but can get very busy. great deals on sales for wine club members! I've been a happy club member for 14 years.
My wife and I visited the Healdsburg location thinking that we sample a several wines that sounded interesting. When we arrived there was no one at the tasting room. We waited and waited and proceeded to go in and out the door repeatedly thinking a bell would sound. Finally we heard a woman who was in the upstairs office. She was on a personal call but she finally came down when we kept saying hello, hello. She then made an excuse for keeping us waiting and proceeded to tell us the higher priced reserve tasting was the only one available. I informed her the website said differently and we wanted to try the less expensive tasting. She said "the reserve tasting is all we have today." We then departed and told her we would make certain others learned of the lousy attitude and lack of service.
Ferry location really disappointing don't even bother going out of your way to get there!! If you want a more personable experience try the Healdsburg location. This winery has changed as it's getting bigger, producing more low end wines. They high end wines, while they taste great, do not taste fabulous enough to command the high price tags. Customer service seems to have faded from being really personable to not at all. Disappointing. There are just too many wineries with amazing customer service and excellent wines to focus on Rosenblum.
Rosenblum Cellars has the nicest staff and quality wine. It makes for a nice wine tasting, and is enjoyable to do when in Alameda.
Some friends were in town, and Rosenblum had been recommended as a fun day trip. We took the ferry to Alameda, and Rosenblum was just a short walk from the pier. From the moment we walked in, the people there were friendly and helpful. In particular, our pourer, Don, was chatty and patient with our questions. He knew a lot of about the history of the winery, and had good suggestions for things to do in the area. Most importantly - the wine was delicious! I walked out with 4 bottles, which is unusual for me.
The good people of Rosenblum make you feel welcome and the tasting is in a warm friendly environment. Great location right next to the Ferry terminal on Alameda.
we were here 10 years ago when the wine was still on the premises, in barrels and had a great time with the tastings. this time was quite a let down. the warehouse feels so empty and huge. it appears that it is setup for large groups which would give the place a different feeling. we were 2 of 4 people there. a number of locals came and went as they picked up wine. we didn't feel that the fellows were very interested in giving us a meaningful experience. my husband bought 5 bottles of very good zinfandel, so in that way, it was almost worth the effort of going over. I enjoyed the ferry ride there and back and the view.
The venue is an old warehouse that has been redone beautifully. If you are headed back to Oakland airport this is an easy stop. Their wine is generally good and they have broad range of prices. The only down side is the location as their is nothing else in the area.
