This is one of the best local museums we have seen in a long time. They ask $2 per adult for a donation and we felt it was worth the money. They have a fascinating Firearms collection with lots of firearms we have never seen before. Also lots of ranching and indian artifacts as well as lots of local history. Definitely a place to stop if you are looking for things to do in this area.

Passing through Alturas and wasn't expecting much here, but was happily surprised! My kids, 9 and 11, had a great time seeing all the old interesting devices, such as a working gramaphone, player piano, iron lung. The arrowhead collection is enormous. Cowboy/ranching artifacts very interesting, nice selection of taxidermy. For the size that it is, it was really incredible that it held our kids attention for a solid hour.
