Went on the three day trip down the Tuolumne River. Ben was our guide and trip leader and was just fantastic. He was knowledgable about the river, the environment, habitat along with old miningand river stories. Ben is a true technician at mastering the level IV rapids. Our campsite was the best ever, great food prepared by all the wonderful guides and gear masters including (Salsa-Shawn, Crystal, Colin, Moose and Jimbo), they provided games, activities, hikes, and swimming holes to boot. My College age kids were in no way sad to leave their electronics and go off the grid with this much fun. I highly recommend this crew and this outfit. Even our photographer Chad captured some great memories for us and the whole trip was outstanding. We rented the sleep kits and they too were perfect. The tent for 2 was easy, pads comfortable and sleeping bags were clean. The prep they did for us to tour, raft, camp, play and be safe just can't be beat. Even the groover was sanitary!
Had a group of 7 go rafting this weekend with our river guides Sean sorrin and Chris seymore. Professional an entertaining, provided us with an excellent trip. Can't wait to be back again to raft with OARs. Nothing but a great time
You couldn't ask for a better outfit. The guides are top notch (James was our man - amazing ability to keep everyone, our boat and the entire group, entertained and safe). The campground - especially the pre-set platform tents, is beautiful and thoughtful. The platform tent area has two well-placed water features for beauty and sound masking. There are tons of games including volleyball and giant chess. The location can't be beat. Walk to to breakfast, walk to your river launch, walk to your delicious dinner at Gringo's (try the Bahn Mi taco!) and walk to frozen yogurt for a treat before you turn in.A-MAZE-ING!!!O.A.R.S. has a relationship with REI. If you mention REI (or apparently Yelp) when booking you can get a 15% discount. We'll be heading back next year.
Just finished a three day rafting trip down the Tuolumne River and had the most amazing experience. Chris A was our raft guide and he really made the trip. He was funny and serious when he needed to be. He ensured safety of the boat at all times while still having a good time. I highly recommend the trip. Chris A was awesome.
Went on the three day Tuolumne River white water rafting trip. It was pretty hot (went in late July/early August) and because of the drought, the water wasn't quite as good as it could have been. That said, we still had a great time. The guides were very helpful and knowledgeable, told great stores, kept people interested and having a good time and worked hard to be sure everyone enjoyed themselves. The food was tasty and always plentiful. It was a bit more strenuous that I expected, but maybe that's just me. I would still recommend it.
This was my second trip with OARs and it won't be the last. This was their craft beer trip with Chef Chip Roberts from the Arnold Pantry and it was pretty amazing. I am partially biased as I provided the beer from the 21st Amendment Brewery out of San Francisco. Beyond the amazing food and beer the trip down the Tuolomne is not to be missed. The OARs staff is top notch, professional and great folks to be around. They will make you laugh, show you interesting things, take you on hikes to deep water pools lined by granite walls. It's an opportunity to disengage from the world for three days, no cell phones, camping out, getting to know your fellow camper and yourself. You owe it to yourself to do this once in your lifetime. Sign up and see you on the river!

Excellent Oarspeople: Katrina as leader of the tour, and John,Lars,Jimmy,Cory,Ryan,Derrick, Katie and Kate. They are knowledgeable about the Colorado river, hiking trails, history, geology, flora and fauna. They worked their tails off to keep us well fed, comfortable and safe on the river. My husband and I did the 7 day trip.
My fiancee, Eric, and I booked this trip about 3 weeks before we went. I watched all the videos and read every thing possible on rafting. We were both extremely nervous! But it turned into a very relaxing FUN filled trip. We did the 2 day trip. The guides were simply amazing!!!! They were attentive and on key with everything. They prepared our meals which were absolutely delicious!!!!!! Rafting was pretty mellow at times but did get a little crazy. Which we loved the crazy parts!! The takeout area was really cool! You'll see for yourself.... :) Thanks O.A.R.S. for making our trip fabulous! And a special thanks to the guides who worked so hard for our enjoyment!
Highly recommended trip. Chris A. was our guide and he was wonderful! Great food and tons of fun! Thank you Chris for all your expertise, excitement and sewing A+'s sandals. We will be in touch to do the middle fork of the American river. Hopefully with Sean and Ullon! Thank you!!! Mary M.
We just returned from a 6 day, 5 night trip from Lee's Ferry to Phantom Ranch with OARS. I'm finding it difficult to put into words how much this trip exceeded our expectations. The boatmen (Three were women) were amazing in their knowledge about the canyon, their cooking skills, their rafting skills and their humor. I was impressed about how health and safety conscious they were, and how professional yet fun they were. Running the rapids was a real adrenaline rush! My husband doesn't like camping and he even thoroughly enjoyed this trip, tent pitching and all.
I went rafting on the 5 day, 4 night Hells Canyon trip through Idaho and Oregon. The raft guides were exceptional in knowledge, friendly, fun and hard working. I highly recommend OARS for rafting trips and will do another trip with this company in the future. The rapids were fun and the food was great too. The homemade salsa the guides made fresh there for dinner was amazing. Thanks OARS for a trip of a lifetime!!!
We originally had a rafting trip planned on the Merced river, but since that time of the year the water was low, they planned another rafting trip, the Tuolumne river. This turned out to be a good deal since the Merced was a class 3 and the tuolumne river was a class 4.Pro's: great lunch, great guide (Sean), good raftingCon's: we would have appreciated some more action and adventure (:)): our guide was a bit too good.
My wife and I rafted 11 days through the Grand Canyon from Lees Ferry to Whitmore Wash with O.A.R.S. in early September, 2013. It was a trip that I had wanted to do for my entire lifetime - and it met my expectations! The Arizona monsoon season had lasted 4 weeks longer than usual, so we had rain for the first 4 days and the river ran a deep red-brown (as it probably did prior to the Glen Canyon dam - thus its name). But the payback was seeing waterfalls crashing over the top of the canyon walls, side canyon creek blowouts, and greenery not usually seen that time of year. There were 15 of us in 4 self-bailing rafts. Our four boatsmen were excellent on the river and very knowlwedgable about the canyon - its history and geology. Two equipment boats and three other staff rounded out the crew. Drybags, tents and bedding were supplied. Meals were wonderful - fresh eggs, greens, fruits, beef, chicken, lamb, and baked deserts (even a birthday cake!). It was wonderful.
