I believe they have the best Chardonay [Sierra Mar] and the best Pinot in Carmel Valley , the St. Lucia Highlands Pinot[Gary Vineyards] can not be beat!
I am a long time wine club member that picks up his wine at the tasting room. We also take out of town visitors there. The staff is always friendly and the wine in always good.
I have been a wine club member of Bernardus for two years now. I hardly ever make it all the way into Carmel Valley - but when its time to pick up I cant get out there fast enough. They have renovated the space which allows for more seating (and drinking). I love to bring out of town guests with me out there. The staff is always a perfect blend of professional and fun. They are full of knowledge but do not make you feel like an idiot if you dont know anything about wine! I would highly recommend making this a stop on our Valley wine tours.
We have been drinking the wines from Bernardus for years and without exception, they deliver a consistently great product. Stopped in on a recent road trip for some tasting and discovered their small plate menu. Great cheese and meat selections paired perfectly with their wines. If you are in the market for a rock solid wine, don't leave this one off your list!!
Hopefully the new owners will shake this place up. Not enough umbrellas around the pool and food was expensive.
Not a good service, and not a good wine. The place looks nice from outside, but there is not enough seats and very bad service
great tasting room and worth the stop! friendly service and very knowledgeable about the wine making process and the wines of the area. the wines were really good and will be purchasing some online!
excellent Pinot Noir at reasonable prices. They also have a great Chardonnay. Nice tasting room with a cute outside patio.
Enjoyed tasting on outdoor patio. Seating was comfitable. Very relaxing. Weather was beautiful, wines were good. Snacks can be purchased to enjoy with the wine.
We tasted the wines from Bernardus when we took the Wine Trolley last October and had to come back for a few bottles while in the area. We actually came up a day early just so that we could take the time to swing by.
We visited the Bernardus tasting room in Carmel Valley after visiting two smaller tasting rooms in the area and were a little disappointed. The tasting cost $12 (plus tax) for 4 wines plus a bonus pour. The wine was nice but forgettable, which I put down to the tasting experience rather than the quality of the wine. If I'd enjoyed the overall experience more I'm sure the wines themselves would have been more memorable. The staff were friendly but not as knowledgeable or passionate about the wines as we had experienced in some of the smaller tasting rooms. My partner asked about one of their wines which had a very small percentage of a particular grape, as he wondered whether such a small percentage had an impact of the taste, the response from the server was "yeah, apparently so"...he was looking for a little more insight than that! The tasting room wasn't particularly busy when we arrived, just one other couple, but that couple were in the wine business and both servers were clearly more interested in chatting to them rather than us. It felt like we had been rushed through the tasting. We hadn't even finished sampling the last wine but as soon as they realised that we wouldn't be buying anything our bill was brought over immediately. Bernadus is clearly one of the larger producers in the area and it seemed like they didn't think that they needed to make an effort with customers.
Bernardus Winery and Tasting Room is one of my favorite places to visit. The servers are so knowledgeable about wine, as well as being informative, funny and friendly. It feels as if we are coming "home" and family has been waiting for us to return. And, oh, the wine. My favorites are the Chardonnay, but the reds are fantastic as well, especially the Marinus. Bernardus offers food pairing parties which are delicious and original. It's a lovely drive from our home in Campbell, and well worth the trip.
Although not located near other wineries, Bernardus' reputation is what draws people there. The wine is great, the staff is knowledgeable, and it is a beautiful site.
I was able to visit this Winery and Tasting Room with a person that used to work there. So we were given special treatment. Although it seemed that everyone who visits this establishment gets special treatment. The wines are fantastic. I wholeheartedly endorse this place.
This is the most commercial of all the wine tasting rooms in Carmel Valley. The male wine pourer was charming, but overwhelmed by the crowds commanding his attention. We met a lovely older woman there, who was a regular, and took a liking to us, as she gave us a free tasting card for Heller wines, which should not be missed (Heller has a great library wine selection.) We bought one bottle to be held for us until the next day, and we were credited $7, which was 1/2 of the $15 we would have been charged if we purchased nothing. It is a pricey tasting and you have to spend $75 to get the tasting fee waived. I would go back, but I would go to other places first.
