Whenever we host visitors, we take then to the Blackhawk Museum. It is a unique venue and collection. There is a good selection of restaurants in the center, a movie theater and we love the Wheelchair Foundation exhibit next door.
This is a unique spot to take folks...I take my out of town guests for a unique experience..even those who are not "Car Fans" will enjoy it..such a variation of vehicles..be prepared to walk a bit, this place is very spread out..the surrounding area is also lovely, with a fountain and small lake with ducks and waterfalls, and good shopping and restaurants..don't be put off by the cost, it is worth it
Wow, The Blackhawk Automotive Museum is a must for car lover!!! This place is gorgeous and it has an amazing display of luxurious cars artfully displayed. What an incredible spot to visit in the heart of Danville-Blackhawk.. This outdoor mall has gorgeous lagoons and waterfalls along the shops and great restaurants and bars. A must visit for everyone wanting to be impressed with modern architecture and beauty.
This place is a true gem for car buffs. Especially if you like Ferrari! They have some extremely rare cars that are on display for your pleasure. It is a very good value and a great way to kill an hour or two. They seem to rotate cars in and out so it is no telling just what you will see from visit to visit. They also have special exhibitions so check their website to see if anything is going on that might interest you!!!
The Blackhawk Auto Museum is well maintained with some of the best classic cars in the world. The atmosphere is calm and not crowded. It is a place that an enthusiast or a novice can enjoy automobile history and see the beauty of the industry.
This is a first class automotive museum that rivals Harrahs. It is in an upscale suburban shopping area with excellent restaurants.
Beautiful, well maintained cars in a gracious setting. Information posted for each car. New cars are continually added to the collection. The site is often used for fund raisers. There is a collection of old jute boxes downstairs, fun to see.
if you like or love older cars, this is the place to come. they have an amazing collections of older (replica of first type of car) to the the 1970's with a couple of new cars, too. they usually have some kind of additional exhibit and there is permanent wheelchair exhibit (the founder traveled the world collecting artifacts and collectables while promoting wheelchairs for other countries).
I visited the Blackhawk Museum shortly after it opened, and it was stunning. Rolling works of art, restored to the highest standards, carefully curated, and accompanied by beautiful displays. I visited again last weekend. The upper floor was closed for renovation, One wing was taken over by an admittedly nice toy train setup. The other displays looked like they'd been there since my last visit. The car collection was also disappointing, a couple of race cars, a whole lot of '50's-'60's Italian cars arranged in rows, some nice '30's-early '50's cars with very interesting bodywork along the back wall. It reminded me of the Auto Collection in Vegas. Maybe I'm spoiled by my recent visits to the car museum in Reno, but it looks to me like the administration here has called it a day. Still worth the $15 admission, but a shadow of its former self.
What a pleasant surprise to find this attraction. Though I am not much of an auto aficionado, I could easily have become one after seeing the vast array of fine European (primarily) autos including, Rolls Royces from the 30's, racing cars (aston martins, lotus) and rarely seen domestic autos including some unusual, limited editions and spec cars from Dodge. Bring a camera and enjoyThe collection/building also houses a fine and eclectic collection of African and Asian Art and a collection of wheelchairs. The financier of the museum has donated a great deal of his wealth to helping the poor domestically and in African having set-up a foundation to provide wheelchairs for the desperately poor. The museum's location is adjacent to an upper-scale shopping mall. The museum would not be suitable to small children. Adults and car enthusiast teens will love this place
We visited over Christmas with 4 of us paying $60 total entrance. Inside was amazing, especially the fantastic cars but for me, the model trains were the real stars, with a huge track all laid out, complete with several trains and buildings etc. My husband loved the cars but was disappointed that none of the engines were on display. Unfortunately, the upper level was undergoing refurbishment whilst we were there and so we didn't get to see any of that. Would I go again, most definitely yes.
The Blackhawk Automobile Museum, part of the Smithsonian, has a premier automobile collection of approximately 90 cars on display. The types of cars here include Rolls Royce Phantoms, Mercedes-Benz, Bugatti, Cadillacs, Ferraris, Packards, Jaguars, Alfa Romeos, Aston Martin, and more. Its amazing. There is also a gallery devoted to one of the founders Ken Behring, real estate developer and former owner of the Seattle Seahawks. That gallery is devoted to his work on the Wheelchair Foundation. I have included more details on that gallery on my write up on the Behring Museum. There is a charge for the museum; when we went it was $15 per adult. More details on their web site.Parking is nearby and is free. This was a repeat visit for us.
Ken Behring enjoys automobiles and this museum is a testament to that Mr. Behring was a real estate developer, former ownr of the Seattle Seahawks, and also a philanropist. There is the 90 car Blackhawk museum that has amazing premier historic cars on display. Another part of the museum is about his philanthropic efforts. One of his major focuses was to provide wheelchairs world wide to people in need.. The Wheelchair Foundation is highlighted in a big part of the museum. There is also on display international art that he received from thankful international groups for his efforts. There is also a part of the museum dedicated to the life of Mr. Behring. On my visit in November 2014, there was work being done on the 2nd floor galleries, so not available to visit. That new exhibit will be open February 2015.There are periodic events at the museum such as speaker series and one week-end day each month for "coffee and cars."Admission for adults when I visited was $15.00. The museum is part of the Smithsonian.Parking is free.
Blackhawk auto museum is always a quality act. There are the classics that always seem to be there but they never fail to surprise with something new and interesting. Worth a few hours on an afternoon.
Even if you're not a car a enthusiast this place is amazing. So many varieties of cars from different ages, most of them priceless. Many of them with very interesting stories.Do an image search online and I promise you will be wanting to go.
