Summers Past is a wonderful way to spend a few hours in a very authentic, organic, well-run facility where the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. Between the fresh herbs and flowers you can buy to grow at home, to the coffee stand, the gardens themselves, the cat and dog, the soap shop (where their homemade soaps and salves are perfect if you want to "buy local", which is what I like to do when I travel) and the gift store. Interspersed, you will find fairy houses, arbors, stone benches and a rabbit. The place is very charming, non-commercial and a wonderful escape from the harsh realities of life. Highly recommended!
I have been going to Summer's Past Farms for what seems like almost 2 decades. From the freeway you wouldn't know the place exists. It is a wonderful little farm with events. My favorite is Fairy Festival in spring. Children and adults dress up like fairy's for a cute little parade. There is a contest for home built Fairy gardens and it's a lot of fun. There is plenty of garden space to walk around and see what is seasonally growing. You should see the Sweet Pea's in the Jan/Feb months and the gigantic Sunflowers in the summer. It's a lovely peaceful place to take your family and a lunch and picnic on the lawn, or sit back on the porch with a coffee or beverage from the patio bar. There is a soap shop that is a must visit and also another shop that has such a lovely peaceful feel to it. I have bought some of the most unique items in this store. When you hear the bird songs music, venture over to the CD's. Some of my most relaxing CD's were purchased there. The owners are a friendly, helpful and fantastic couple. All in all it's a must visit. :)
What a find. We have been going to Summer's Past Farms for years. We start with the maze and make our way to the back yard. Animals are what we are looking for...chickens, rabbits, cats and a dog! Then we walk through the fragrant herbs and try to identify them. Then it is over the bridge to the pumpkin patch! After running around the patch, it is off to the barn so moms can browse or buy seeds, pumpkins, herbs, coffee, soaps of gifts. It is a gem in East County near El Cajon.
Summers past has everything for a fun afternoon. Shopping in a cute soap store or gift barn. Plants for sale. Wander around lots to see inside and out. Coffee bar. Also took our photographer there for our family pictures last year. (Small charge). Classes.
If you live in the East County of San Diego, and want a place to just relax and maybe read the paper, or stroll around, try this place. Caution: It does get hot here in the summer. So pick a spring day when the flowers are in bloom, enjoy a coffee or tea and just walk around the flowers. Visit the store with homemade soap for some wonderful smells.
You enter into garden maze that ends into a fun gift shop. All the grounds are done really nice and keep up nicely. There is only two indoor shops and an outdoor shop for herbs and plants. Also, an outside coffee/snack bar and a place to sit and enjoy the gounds. The restrooms could of been nicer.
They state that they are in Flinn Springs We visited the farm and found it interesting. This was the wrong time of the year to visit - not many flowers, but still interesting.
