Admittedly, a gardener would really get the most out of this place, but most anyone can enjoy it, particularly if you have already seen much of San Diego or you want to see something special that's a bit off the beaten path. It's located only about 15-20 mins east of downtown San Diego on the campus of Cuyamaca Community College. Not sure what the gardens look like at other times, but in February, the gardens were abloom, really showing you how beautiful water-wise plants can be at their best. There are also a lot of interesting educational displays, including one of a storm drain and a display showing how much water different types of grass use. I think most people would be amazed at the differences. The garden is also much larger than I thought. You can easily spend an hour or two strolling around.
What a Great Place to Visit. Wanna get away from the City, the Traffic, and relax. GO, GO,GO.... Sit in a secluded arbor and relax....
Easy to get to. Free admission. Free parking. Beautiful grounds for walking, drawing or reading. Pretty fish ponds and blooming flowers. I actually learned something about water conservation. Has a gift shop on premises and docents for tours and school trips. Highly recommended.
For people who want to do low use water or zero scape garden this is the place to come to. They have examples of different gardens and how they affect your wallet and environment. There are tours every Saturday, Special Presentations and classes during the year. There is also a gift shop on the facility.
Beautiful landscaping and good resource for gardeners. I went during an open house when admission is free and many volunteers are available to share plant tips.
Played a concert here recently and took some time to walk around and look the gardens over prior to the concert. This is a stellar idea for showing local flora and fauna.
At Cuyamaca College. Great ideas for the yard. So peaceful just walking around the area. Nearby is the museum that has a lot of El Cajon History. Worth the visit.
This place is just fantastic. So much beauty in a small place. AND, they can teach you so much about water conservation (awesome info in this time of drought/dryness). I went to a faculty gathering there, and the setting is romantic enough for a wedding. Seriously fabulous. :)
My husband and I attended the wedding of a co-worker of mine at The Water Conservation Garden. What a wonderful setting it was, and you would be surprised with what it has to offer and how fun it can be! The wedding was around Halloween with a 'harvest' theme, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! I totally recommend The Water Conservation Gardens for a quaint and memorable wedding experience!!
The Water Conservation Garden is a great place to take children as well as adults. The garden has great graphics that tell you about different aspects of water conservation. I would like to see more emphasis placed on native California vegetation, but the emphasis on conservation is a good start.
So nice to see what can be done. Nice walk. If you have any questions, just fine the Lady with the crazy shoes.
Beautiful places to wander and sit and listen to the birds. Well designed and well tended gardens demonstrate the full beauty of southern California. Enjoy!
There's a couple of reasons why I love this garden. First, it's free. Second, it's beautifully landscaped...beautiful views from every angle. You see birds, insects, and lizards. They have things for children to learn and play...they are even building a butterfly garden. You learn how to save money on your water bill, how to garden for the Socal climate, how to compost/use worms, and so much more. They have a cute little gift shop, too.
We have been here a few times. This garden is dedicated to using landscaping that thrives in our low rain area.
This garden is located on the campus of Cuyamaca Community College. The school offers an award winning ornamental horticulture program, and the garden is truly their gift to the community. You will enjoy looking at the native plants, as well as the conservation displays and tips. If you have small children, there is a delightful path and fun area for them to discover. They also have plant sales a few times each year. You can find some great bargains.
