Ok. So we love vintage cars! After driving by and noticing the "Vintage Wines and Car Museum" sign at the entrance, we put that on our TO DO list while we were visiting Escondido. This place was amazing - it is chock full of a fabulous collection of cars--all convertibles. Cars with names like Nash, Rambler, DeSoto abound not to mention the Pierce Arrow and a Parnelli Jones Race car. Not only are the 130 cars fabulous, but one needs to look carefully at every wall, in every room including the ceilings! There are a number of cool collections: Antique gas pumps; a large collection of antique gas pump globes with bygone logos like Texaco's Star and Mobilgas; antique parking meters; antique bicycles; automotive signs of all sorts both metal and neon; an antique radio collection; early TV collection; and a collection of early small appliances. There are even some very cool pieces of antique furniture scattered about. There is a Coca Cola memorabilia room and of course, the inevitable Barbie Doll Collection room with some truly amazing Barbies (and Ken's). And of course there is a fee ($10) - it isn't free to restore vintage cars, after all. We did not do the wine tasting - we just wanted to see the cars. If you find yourself in Escondido between Friday and Monday (it's only open on weekends), and you like antiques and vintage cars, it really is a sight to see complete with friendly and welcoming people! We loved it and will go back should we find ourselves in the San Diego area again.
My wife found the auto museum when she stopped by for a wine tasting. I enjoy vintage cars and she recommended the museum to me. I couldn't have been more pleased. It was a great find! A fabulous collection of about 130 cars from fully restored to original and unrestored. Another viewer mentioned disappointment that a visitor could not walk all the way around the vehicles displayed. Folks, there are four galleries in three buildings in which to see this magnificent collection. If you're an auto buff or someone who just wants to relive their youth, this is a great place to spend a few hours. I invested four hours here and had time permitted could have spent one or two more hours more. I was able to visit with the son of the man who assembled the vehicle collection. There is also a wonderful and eclectic collection of radios, TVs, home appliances and Barbie dolls in the same buildings.
I was here with my girlfriend on a Friday around 11am. The price is 10 per person , it looks nice and looking at the 150 classics will sure take youre breath away. Make sure you go with someone the place is lonely and a solo ride might get creepy. By the way you might wanna pay and do a wine tasting
We noticed the Deer Park Winery & Vintage Auto Museum recently. They claimed to be the largest auto museum in the U.S. How do they make that claim? Perhaps since the size of the property is many acres and the cars are in three buildings in a winery. Most of the cars were in original, not restored condition. The majority of the cars were US models from the 30s through the 60s. They do have a nice Pierce Arrow in the final building of the museum. The owner has displayed other items as well including radios, Barbie Dolls and old appliances. I don't believe that the buildings were air conditioned. It was really warm when we were there. We decided not to do the wine tasting here.
This place has a tremendous collection of antique and classic convertibles.I have been to many car museums, but this is the best. The display encompasses several buildings and most are restored but some cars are in original condition. Also, the owners have literally thousand of old radios and television. It is a treasure trove of early to midcentury Americana. The grounds around the buildings are in need of some cleanup landscaping, but that is not what is important.Outstanding collection of over 100 cars. Eight dollars to get in? The biggest deal, ever.
We like to try and find hidden off the beaten path places to stop and visit and this place was worth the stop. We were welcomed as we walked in and had a nice conversation with one of the owners. It was fun to walk around and see all the convertibles, appreciate the information on displayed on each one. I know they are not displayed so you can walk around the entire car and yes that would be wonderful but they have managed to fit an awful lot of cars into the 3 buildings. They also have old TV's Radios, appliances and even a space devoted to Barbie for the girls who tag along with the guys. This is a private collection and the fact that they have shared this with anyone who stops by makes it worth your time to visit. This is they type of thing that is slowly disappearing from our world. We did not sample the wine as it was a bit early in the day but if your there at the right time why not. They are a boutique winery and I believe they said they bottle about 1000 cases a year.
Came for the car collection (no interest in wine). They have several seriously rare models (51 Frazier convert sedan, 53 Fiesta), but the display is static and particularly unfriendly to photograph. Maybe another building and a doubling of the $7 admission fee? Most cars are parked diagonally, front out, so one cannot appreciate the rear design or any interior details. The Fiesta is particularly sad, forlorn in a dark corner. There's potential for much more here. Many vehicles are in 'tired museum' state (which is not in itself terrible), but a few are done quite nicely. The proprietors are friendly and conversational and the americana displays are neat (though again, much glassed off). The explanatory signs for each vehicle are good short descriptions for those who know little and want a bit more info. As a buff for 25+ years, I appreciate the effort but came away a little underwhelmed. Go in with reasonable expectations though and you will likely be pleased - probably even marveling at the price.
Amazing that nobody knows about this place next to Lawrence Welk's resort between Escondido and Temecula. 120 cars inside and outside of 3 buildings. Most are convertibles. $8 AAA rate is a steal to go through this beautiful collection of not only automobiles but Americana i.e. signs, tvs, radios, sewing machines, bicycles and more. This is a MUST STOP for anybody.
I didnt sample the wine but did go to the vintage car museum. The museum costs $7 and the wine about the same. There are a couple hundred cars from the 40's to 60's, all convertibles. They also have a display of appliances from that same era and Barbie dolls. The cars are in several buidings with a little walk in between.
