I happen to be a fan of The Lost Abbey brews. The staff here is friendly, there is music playing, games to play scattered about and on the day we visited there was food service out front. If you love craft beer then a stop here is a must. The lack of seating (meaning no chairs to be found) and flight trays to carry your tasters leaves you wondering how long they really want you to stay and the only reason I can't say the location is better than average.

Stopped by Lost Abbey/Port Brewery in mid January in San Marcos (not Escondido, as the above address indicates). It's located in a business park on the north side of highway 78 (not far from Escondido). The tasting room is located in the front of the same space that houses the actual brewery. The beertenders were very knowledgeable about the Lost Abbey brews and can advise you on each one. Or, you can sample as many or as few as you want for $1 for a 4 oz. glass! I tried 3: Lost and Found was my favorite. $5 for a pint. More information is on their website: www.lostabbey.com.For me,There are a couple of shortcomings though. The first is that they didn't have anything but beer on tap: not really a bad thing, but I took my gf, who is not a beer drinker. They DID NOT serve soft drinks or wine or even water of any kind (I know, you're there for the beer, right?). She did buy a couple of 4 oz glasses to take home. The second thing is that there were no tables or chairs set up in the bar area to sit and enjoy the beer! Adding a few tables and chairs would certainly enhance the experience, at least for me. There was a food truck parked at the entrance, serving food and drink, but again, without a place to sit and enjoy. I will be visiting the area again next week. Wonderful beers! Please Lost Abbey: add soft drinks and chairs!! It'll be a better experience for your visitors.

Lost Abbey has a nice vibe and great beers to sample. It's a bit off the circuit, but if you are into hoppy beer, this is on your list to visit. That said, my favorite is the Witch's Wit - a nice balanced Hefe that doesn't try to overwhelm you with flavors. Note that if you are looking for something lighter, the Amigo is a nice light beer in the style of Dos Equis or Heineken Light (ok, I know that's blaspheme, but I'm trying to relate them to something everyone knows).There is usually a food truck outside and nice locals to talk with inside. Very friendly and low on the Attitude scale. Will return again.

This is ourt third visit to Lost Abbey Brewery. For newbees; be prepared its not an Abbey! Instead its a working brewery with an overhead door they open to expose a tap and sales floor. Sample glasses are $1.00 and pints around $5.00. This is an unimposing; low key brewery that allows you to diectly interact withthose acutally making the award making beers. If youare in the area they will also fill growlers! Many of Lost Abbey's beers are named with an irreverent religious overtone and many are either ales or belgian incluenced ales. While there this time I fell in love with an experimental variety called Something about ginger, only available on tap. It was areally great beer with ginger overtones. The laid back atomsphere encourages you to buy a pint and enjoy it on the wire spool tables and half barrel seats with brewing ingredient cushions. We are from NY State and we left with a full case of their beers! Again, for an unpretetious brewery, with modest surroundings and GREAT beer this is the place to go! I wear my Saints and Sinners teashirt proudly in Western New York! Great job Lost Abbey!

So, you've been to Stone Brewing and enjoyed their beautiful facility and the very good beer they make. Now, come to The Lost Abbey - if you can find it. They have one of the best beer menus I've run into with a number of very fine barrel conditioned ales. The beer is strong and they have generous samples, so if you plan to spend some time here have someone else drive (buy them lunch). I'm a Portland beer snob, and the San Diego breweries have really impressed me and Lost Abbey one of my favorites.

This is a micro-brewery which, in addition to making some very good beer - like, very good ones you are not likely to find in many bars across country - has some bar room. Which is nice, because you can have a beer with your friends knowing that the beer you have in your hand has not moved from the big iron storage... things that you see in front of you. And, did I already mention it is really good beer? Also, they came up with this idea of the $1 tasters, which is a cheap way to discover your favorite beer. And they serve food, even though I didn't try it.Now, I've been made to notice it is not exactly in an area where people usually hang out. But if you're passing there, or living nearby, it is definitely worth stopping by.

Had never tried Lost abbey/Port brewing beers before but wanted to check them out. Brewery is located in a factory area, and is easy to pass by if you don't pay attention. Place doesn't look like much but is definitely worth the stop. Staff was very friendly and took time to describe the beers and help me choose styles that I would probably like. The samples were very priced very low 1.5-3 dollars a piece and the pours were generous. Wide variety of beers in many different styles. Tried 9 different beers and all were good. Don't be deceived by looks and give this place a try.

The Lost Abbey and Port Brewing's tap room is amazing and hands down some of the best strong beers I have ever had. Over twenty beers to sample on tap and many more in bombers to try or take home. A little hard to find; GPS is must to locate. The place has a great vibe and service was top notch. There were so many beers above 8% ABV that were not just good but great. Tasters are $1 and after trying them all, there was no way to drive; better pick a designated driver. This is the place I will bench mark all future tap rooms and breweries. Now the hard part, finding bombers of both brands in AZ.

Excellent beers. Nice variety. Very adventurous without going off the deep end. My favorite is their deliverance barrel aged beer (unfortunately only in a bottle). Draft tasters are just a $1. Visit on a Wednesday evening and enjoy food from a variety of gourmet food trucks.

Are you kidding me?!?! $1 for several tastes of heaven! A fantastic vibe, friendly and smart staff. Love, love, love all of the beers we tried!

Tomme Arthur, the head brewer at the Lost Abbey, is so well thought of that Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia regularly features his beers for special nights and they are a staple of their beer list.They usually have 20 or more world class drafts to try at their brewery.This is literally one of the best microbreweries on the planet. Do not miss this if you are anywhere near San Diego, Ca.They may be closed Mondays and Tuesdays, check their hours first.

The tasting room is an extension of the brewery so don't expect anything fancy. You can sample beers for $1 for a 4 ounce pour. They specialize in ales/IPAs (my favorite was Hop 15) and Belgian style beers (my favorite was Judgement Day). The beers I sampled were all great to outstanding. They have a large selection of beers so you might want to research in advance to see which are the best beers that correspond to your taste preferences. Check either ratebeer or beeradvocate for detailed tasting notes.

Excellent beer selection, first and foremost. The thing to know about Lost Abbey/Port is that this is a working brewery and it's SMALL. They have utilized every available inch of space so you may 'feel' crowded. Who cares? You're drinking amazing beer with really knowledgable staff. Everyone was super nice when we were there and they were accommodating a large busload of people who were stopping for a tasting. Go, it's worth the trip if you're into super amazing creative beer. and no, there' s not enough room to spread out so plan in advance.

Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey have lots of great beer. However, it is showcased very poorly in their brewery tasting room location. It is just downright gross from the dirty floors, barrel table-tops and bathrooms. The crowd was also a bit sketchy as well. This place just didn't have a good vibe. When I left, I felt like I wanted to take a shower. It's too bad because I wanted to have a couple of their beers but there was no way I was going to stay beyond the one.The bathroom was so gross that they had rubber strips hanging from the ceiling that you have to walk through to get into the bathroom- like you are in a carwash. It's unsanitary and disgusting. This could be a good place to visit if they'd clean up a bit. Otherwise, I'd head elsewhere.

This brewery has a fantastic selection of beers. I consider myself a beer snob, have been to Cantillon, Westvleteren, most of the breweries in San Diego and Colorado and this brewery is one of the best. Great staff, fun atmosphere, it is a working brewery, so nothing fancy and a great price! Only a dollar per taster. They also give a simple tour of the brewery, it is very informative and funny! They do a great job with sours and barrel aged wines. There are also food trucks on most days. Fantastic place, make sure to go if you're in town.
