Haven't been here in about a decade. Have been here probably 8 times but was happily surprised at what a great time the family had. Even our 15 and 19 year old kids. The tram ride was awesome as it has always been. My personal favorites were the fruit bat exhibit which we visited twice and the lion exhibit. I'm amazed that the San Diego Zoo can stay in business with this fantastic park only 45 Minutes away.

As part of the San Deigo zoo, this park gives you a great look into the challenges of nearly-extinct animals, and what the zoo is doing to try to save those animals and to reintroduce them, when feasible, to their native lands. Has the same feeling as the zoo - respectful of habitat, a great learning experience for all ages of children, clean, orderly, well run. Nice to plan a two-day excursion, one day to the zoo and one to the safari park. While related, they are very different experiences.

Our friends insisted that we visit the safari park they had visited 30 years before. We are not really zoo people even though we know it's all happening at the zoo! And it was! There's a lot of walking involved at the safari park even though they provide a tram. However to get to the tram requires a lot of walking. However if you do not take the tram you will not realize the size of the park, unless you are an Olympic athlete.I discovered the difference between a safari park and a Zoo is that a safari park is much much bigger and has large herds of animals as well as smaller displays. It cost us $35 each to get in with the senior discount and everything inside the park is very expensive and they offer you a chance to get a photo with the animals or Photoshopped animals at every opportunity. We spent an hour waiting for the cheetah to run 5.5 seconds down the track, nevertheless it was the highlight of the day. A very enthusiastic park hostess have us a lot more information about cheetahs than we will ever use while we waited. We also visited with the lemurs and it turns out we were very fortunate that they were awake because usually they are sleeping. Just don't bend over.

If you can't make it to a safari in Africa this is the next best thing, mid you on a much smaller scale, but you see many of the same animals. Zebras , giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, lions (the male and cubs put on a good show if you are early), rhinos, elephants (park staff put on an informative show in the arena sitting area), condors, owls, eagles, gosh I can't remember them all, and so many babies in the spring. Spent all day and loved it even tho we had been to Africa and on a couple of safaris. Oh, they also have an anchored balloon ride up 400 ft. And they have a tent camp where you can spend the night and partake of extra events. ** Take the tram ride at the bottom first thing in the morning then hang out with the lions and hear the king of the beasts sound out to his domain.

We went to the San Diego Zoo and enjoyed it. The safari park was so much better. You can see more animals and its alot bigger. Worth the drive out. Between the two parks, don't miss the Safari Park.

This is a great place. There are several options available to get close the animals here. A lot of them live in a savannah type area that is totally open. The walkways are all easy and very well laid out. Lots of places to stop and have your own lunch or snacks. A few souvenir gift places but not overwhelming. They have a wonderful animal conservation program. Really great playground area for little ones if a break is needed. I will definitely return. Can easily spend a whole day here.

It was a whole day of fun and adventure. Our family with two little ones, ages 4 and 1 enjoyed our day at the zoo. We took the African Tram. This attraction entails a lot of walking so be prepared and allot a whole day to fully appreciate the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. If you have little ones, bring a stroller. You can also have a nice little picnic under the shades. In a hot day, don't forget your sunblock, a hat and water to keep you hydrated. There is so much to see.

We visited the Safari Park in late February '15 and purchased the Caravan Safari Deluxe tour. It was a great time to go. The temperature was pleasant and potential sunburn was not an issue. Our tour began at 1 p.m. and lasted the full 3 1/2 hours promised. I can honestly say every minute was an absolute delight. At $155 above the price of an entry ticket, the Safari Deluxe is not cheap. But it was, in the end, a wonderful value and worth every dime.Yes, we got to feed giraffes and rhinos. That alone may have been worth the price of admission. But what really impressed us was our driver, Barb, and tour guide, Lee.Again and again, they demonstrated thorough knowledge of the animals. What was striking was the way their love of, and their absolute commitment to, the animals was reflected again and again. (The larger animals, for example, all have names -- and Barb and Lee know every one!)Our guide Lee patiently answered every question we had -- and many we had not even thought of. We learned a wealth of information, without ever feeling we were being "lectured" by someone with vastly superior knowledge. Barb and Lee also accommodated every request we made to stop or pause for a photo. In fact, Lee suggested how we should pose to make sure the pictures turned out great. We took so many my wife's cell phone battery ran down. Even then Lee continously asked if we wanted to try to get just one more shot before the battery completely died.Barb and Lee shared not only their knowledge, but also their respect and admiration for each of the animals we were privileged to view -- and there are lots of them! If you are willing (and able) to pay the price of admission, you wil get far more than your money's worth. I will make one suggestion. If you are planning to visit the Safari Park "sometime" please go soon. One of the animals, the northern white rhino, is nearing extinction. There are perhaps only five or six (I forget which) of them left on the earth, and you can see two of them on your safari. Both are elderly, and I believe they are the last two northern whites in America. If you postpone your trip, you may miss an opportunity to see (and photograph) a northern white rhino. And you will never get another chance.

My husband and I visited our son and his family in San Diego. We all spent an afternoon at the Safari Park. We really enjoyed it. We loved seeing the animals in large open spaces instead of cages. They were very active. The lions were playful as were the gorillas. It was about 75 that day which may have been a factor. I recommend going on such a day, but you still need a hat and sunscreen! The African tram was wonderful,be sure to make time for that. You may take food inside. We took our lunch which saved some money. Another money saving tip: buy a one year membership for 2. It costs only $30 more that a one day pass for 2. It is good for unlimited visits to the zoo and safari park for one year!! One thing that surprised us all was how much we enjoyed the garden areas. Being from KY. The vegetation was very different. The desert plants and succulents were beautiful! Many were blooming and the views from the Baja and native scape gardens were wonderful! Even my husband and son, who normally care little about plants, said they really enjoyed the gardens. Another surprise was that this park was about 20-30 minutes away from the zoo. The drive there was pleasant, past farmland and on 2 lane road.
