Post Christmas we found ourselves on a drive in the foothills and decided to drive back to Naggiar Vineyards midday on a Saturday. We'd not had lunch and realizing that Naggiar now offers a lovely selection of tasty bites we couldn't resist enjoying lunch in the beautiful surroundings. I wish I'd thought to take a photo of the large and colorful winter salad with chicken I ordered. At first I didn't see any chicken, but it was in there and there was a lot of it, not on top to weight down the greens and veggies, but underneath at least an entire chicken breast of meat. It was delicious with beets, squash, caramelized onions, roasted carrots all mixed into the greens. My husband ordered the shrimp bisque and salad, nice presentation and every bit as good as mine, I had to sneak a couple of bites. We shared the large berry crumble topped with chocolate and whipping cream. It too was delicious warmed up. The chef came out to our table to make sure we were satisfied and even though the tasting room was busy we felt well cared for. I'm sorry to read in another review how someone was treated by Naggiar staff. We've never had that sort of experience even on their busiest days, it must have truly been an off day in the tasting room. Staff and owners have typically gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. During the winter they have part of the patio enclosed and a roaring fire going in the outdoor fireplace, it's a relaxing spot for taking the chill off and sipping award winning wines away from the crowds. We're looking forward to the 2015 concert series and outings with friends.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We greatly appreciate it and are delighted you enjoyed your time. Cheers!
My daughter took me there for a birthday gift. We listened to a wonderful duo, The Brazilionnaires, in their outdoor dining area. We ordered a bottle of the Sangiovese and when we drank it with our appetizer, the wine came alive. We followed it with a shared salad and 2 pieces of cheese cake. It was a quintessential Nevada County (Norther nCalifornia) experience. The food was simple and excellent, the costs reasonable. It was a lovely place for a celebration.
I bought a Living Social deal for their Reserve wine tasting (normally $15) and one dish off their menu. We had been putting off going, but the deal was expiring soon so we made the drive over. Google took us some back country, gravel road (for part of the drive) way and we thought we were never going to make it. When we drove up, the grounds were beautiful and we could see the grapes growing in the evening sunlight. The tasting room was nicely decorated with a long counter and several people working. It was a Saturday night so it was pretty busy, but we were able to try a bunch of different wines. We're not big wines drinkers and don't know the first thing about wine, but it was nice to try different varieties and further expand our pallet. I, especially, am not much of a wine drinker but several of their wines were very good. We purchased a bottle and ordered our food. We sat outside on the porch and listened to the music of the evening. There is a little lake outside and the weather was perfect. Our artichoke dip came out and it was very tasty. It definitely makes for a casual, but elegant date night. It would also be good for a girl's night out.
We went as a group to this winery on a Saturday to use a travel voucher. When we first saw the winery we were amazed at the beauty of the setting, and the winery itself seemed perfectly suited for romantic getaways. Walking up to the tasting room we even commented on how perfect it would be for a wedding. The tasting room itself was well decorated and inviting. Unfortunately "inviting" ended there. Midday on a Saturday the four of us were the only ones in the room, yet the gentleman working there didn't acknowledge us when we came in. We decided to walk around a bit and didn't think much of it. After a while he finally addressed us. The member of our group with the voucher greeted him and asked to receive the tastings and food that the voucher covered. The employee seemed irritated at first, then asked what we would like to eat. Before we answered he handed us a menu and explained that normally we'd be able to select any item from the menu, but today they were setting up for a concert and the kitchen was busy, so we could choose between two items. We remained friendly and decided to take both items, paying for one and accepting the other as part of the voucher. The tasting was very brief. We went through three wine selections and then were informed that the remaining white wines on the list weren't available because there were no bottles opened. We asked if he could open a bottle and his response was a curt "talk to Mary, she's in charge". Rather than make a fuss, we decided to buy a bottle of wine and take our food outside to a table to enjoy it. We assumed the atmosphere would be better and there was relaxing music playing. As we enjoyed our food (which was delicious) and our wine (which was also excellent) we were startled when the technicians began testing the sound system. They would frequently burst through the music with loud squelches. Since we were the only guests in the entire area we were only a few feet from the technicians and they made no effort to avoid the loud noises. I even caught one of them looking over at our table, apparently amused with himself. We decided to leave and find another winery to visit, as our mood by this time would best be described as agitated. On our way out the employee who served us initially seemed too busy with other tasks to notice us again, so we simply left.I understand that the concerts must make them more money than wine tasting, but I have a hard time believing they have much repeat business with the unfriendly reception we experienced. We never did meet "Mary" but my question to her would be: since when are wineries unwilling to open bottles of listed wines for tasting? And wouldn't it have been prudent, rather than tell us our menu choices were limited to one of two items, to instead offer us both due to the inconvenience? After all, we came on a Saturday, fully expecting a "regular" service, not expecting to be put off because we were somehow inconveniencing them. If setting up for a concert is so taxing on the staff, why not close the tasting room to visitors on those days?In summary: excellent wines, excellent food, terrible hospitality.
I like everything about visiting Naggiar. They have fabulous wine and the setting is beautiful. The tasting room is large, yet cozy; beautifully decorated. Everyone on staff is very professional while friendly and accommodating. The Bistro serves excellent food for a very reasonable price and there is live music on most weekends. We take all our out of town guests and they love it!
What could be better then finding yourself at the end of the road in a beautiful setting listening to live music? A delicious picnic accompanied by a delightful new Rose of course! Mike and Dianne Naggiar continue to improve upon everything they do. How? By hiring the best people, from winemakers to bakers Naggiar is outstanding. Fabulous wines are paired with a satisfying food menu if you haven't packed your own picnic. It may feel hidden 7 miles off of 49, down Wolf Road and a slow roll to the parking lot, protecting those hard working vines, but once you discover the beautiful tasting room and choose an award winning wine any weekend will become a celebration complete with live music. In four years we've seen nothing but continuous improvement in everything from the wines they make to the venue. We look forward to the Tribute bands scheduled this summer and can't wait to celebrate the next birthday with friends, or a Sat. night with each other at Naggiar Vineyards. All I know is after trying the Strawberry Shortcake I've got to learn to make it that way myself, and I'll go back just to try that amazing looking Chocolate Cake with whip cream frosting. Don't let this one go undiscovered.
The tasting room is way down a winding country road, a lovely drive actually, so you need to be determined to find it. The tasting room was quite loud when we were there, but architecturally beautiful. The wines were not terrific.
Naggiar puts on several concerts during the summer months, live music, food and a very nice tasting room where you can purchase wine by the bottle or glass. Their wine tasting room includes items you can purchase such as jewelry, wine items, paintings etc. This is a must visit place if you want to visit a nice winery set in the foothills, evening sunsets amongst rolling hills of ripening grapes. It's a little bit of a drive but worth the trip.
Naggier Vineyard and Winery should be on your list of things to do and places to see in Grass Valley, CA. The wines are amazing and the ambiance is first rate. There are always events going on at the winery, especially during the spring, summer and fall months.
The Naggiar family and the winery are top notch. We've attended several of the summer concerts with fantastic tribute bands - entertainment, fine wine and terrific people. We had a blast! This is truly a 'go to' destination if you are visting Auburn, Grass Valley or anywhere in Northern California!
Naggiar Winery is a family owned winery, with great wine and wonderful activities. It is delightful to go to the winery with a picnic, buy a bottle of wine, and sit outside and enjoy the view. The resident dog, Lolita, meets many of the arriving guests and leads them to the tasting room if she is able. She is up in years, about 12 I think! We also belong to the wine club.
We have been regulars going on our 3rd year. This has really become a "go to" destination with great entertainment throughout the summer, wonderful wines for all palates and a staff and owners that ensure an outstanding experience. While great for tasting Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the musical groups Friday and Saturday evenings make for a very pleasant time with dancing and sometimes, audience involvement. There are tasty small plates of food available and recommended but they still allow you to bring your own food as well, just no outside beverages. There’s a steady following of “regulars” as truly this is one of the best places in the foothills to spend a weekend outing.
We stopped in on a Sunday for wine tasting. It has a beautiful location, really nice employees, and great wine. We chose a couple of options from their bistro menu (all very good!) and selected a bottle of wine, then sat under their covered patio, and gazed over the pond and vineyard and enjoyed the afternoon! It seemed a bit out of the way when we were driving there, but it was well worth it.
Beautiful setting 2 partake in wine tastings! Free live music Fri/Sat & summer concerts. Went 2 c tribute bands over holiday weekend-great time! U can bring ur own eats which is great. Tables & chairs provided or bring ur own blanket & picknick' Enjoy!!
