mural arts program of hayward

... you will be seeing these murals on foot. These murals all over (downtown buildings, main thoroughfares, etc.) deserve more than a fleeting glance. They are brightly colored, creative, highly artistic, and it is like going to an art museum while being outside in the sunshine (best weather for viewing, of course).A couple of times a year, we make a trip to Hayward to visit family and are so impressed with what a difference the graphic art has made to this City. Places that might have been dull, may have invited grafitti, and did not inspire anyone now have been completely transformed.One of our favorites is the large concrete retaining walls on Jackson Street where there is a collage of post-card type depictions, showing historical representations of a Hayward from long ago. The people in the community must take great pride in the artistic work as the murals are always in such excellent shape.

Artist Andy Knight Kong is a genius with his murals in Hayward. He is a top drawer artist who teaches and uses students to beautify the City of Hayward Worth getting out of the car to inspect and enjoy

murals throughout the city.....most depicting city life or history. Artists are varied, and the work has won honors. Utility boxes painted in all different ways......it's all around us

Enjoyed the variety of style and colors. Great fun. Get out and walk up and down the blocks. Love the long mural on Jackson heading towards the Mission intersection. The colors, events, places and people of Hayward are depicted from the Ohlone Indians to current. The musical jazz history of Russell city. Stop at one of the numerous restaurants in the area. My favorite is Buffalo Bills. The BBQ spot is awesome for food and music. Every time I come downtown there is a new mural popping up in unexpected places. Check alleyways and corners. Mosaics on public seats. Decorated library drops. The electrical utility boxes are painted. Great fun to just weave through the city.

This project has been such a positive project for the area. It is so enjoyable to drive around Hayward. The murals by the theater are especially fun.
