My husband and I were staying in Mammoth and had a 3-of-4 day lift ticket, therefore we needed something to do on the 4th day. We drove up to June Mountain, a quick trip up the 395 to June and rode in the afternoon. There were maybe 20 cars in the parking lot for the mountain with pretty good coverage. We didn't wait in any lift lines and rode down empty groomed runs. We were also able to find some small pow stashes from the previous week's storms. We had a great time and shut the mountain down! All the employees we encountered were very friendly and accommodating. The only negative is the slow outdated lifts, but it adds to the "old school" charm of the mountain.
Rarely any big waits at the lifts, the prices are a bit less than Mammoth and the lessons for kids are excellent
This resort is awesome. Mammoth was ridiculously packed,we drove 15 min to June and there were only about 25 cars there. You can get right on the lifts with no lines. The scenery is also very beautiful. Did I mention that it is much cheaper?
I skied there January 12th and 13th. While only a few of the runs were open they were meticulously groomed and excellent skiing. Very few people there. Absolutely no lift lines. I went to Mammoth the 14th. I wish I had skied another day a June instead. I learned to ski at June over 30 years ago and have never had a bad day there since.
Wonderful place to go skiing. Went on MLK weekend and it was hardly crowded at all. Not too expensive either. Only complaint is that when we went, for some reason lifts 4 and 6 were closed. Kinda disappointing since I wanted to see the whole mountain.
We went just to ride the lift up to the restaurant for the view. After 2pm it is free to ride up and you can see for miles. We highly recommend going up to see the view and have a drink or three. It is small, easy to park, and MUCH less crowded that Mammoth.
We went to June Mountain with are family and had a blast. Staff was very nice. We all did snowboarding lessons and the instructors Mike and Jon Paul were patient and so kind. My kids loved it. Highly recommended.
Great family friendly resort. All the good of Mammoth (on a smaller scale) with none of the hassle! Plenty of runs and no, no lift lines!!
Took family up to June Lake for fun 2 day getaway. Didn't plan on skiing or snowboarding. Stopped by to see if we could just ride the lift up to the lodge. Friendly people in ticket office at base of mountain. Husband took one son and I took the other. Boys age 9 and 11 loved the ride up and we were in awe of the view. Wind picked up and it was a thrill. Got to lodge boys had hot chocolate we had our beverage and we had a ball. Staff getting us on and off lifts were so friendly and helpful. see you don't have to ski there just pop in and take a look at that view! We're coming back to ride the mountain!!
Ok this place is a secret so burn this review after reading....JUNE Mountain Rocks! This place is great and there is no one here! Don’t be freaked out when you pull into the parking lot and there is no ski resort in sight. It is above you. See that tiny double chair going way up the mountain? You need to ride that the get there.. The lodge is up at the top of the lift as well as rentals. You will have to buy ticket in the parking lot before going up. Once there a new world awaits, it is a winter wonder land. The ski runs are great with lots of verity Green, blue and blacks so everyone in your party will be entertained. The Staff are some of the friendliest people around and very happy to be working at June! Did not see a frown my entire visit. The best deal is about 25% cheaper than Mammoth so you funds so a lot farther. Over all you will love June. So come ski. ....and burn this review so no one else learns the secret!
June Mountain is the perfect choice if you are with your family and they want to learn to ski or snowboard. The check in process was easy and fast. Each slope is maintained and smooth. All of the employees were happy and excited to be there and it was very welcoming!
Thrilling sights, steep hiking trails that pay off. Very changeable weather. I would recommend this highly.
We have spent a lot of time in June Lake over the last 17 years (fishing & hiking), but my kids and I have never tried skiing (my husband did years ago). We went to June Mountain, and I have to say it was literally the best experience ever!! It was a beautiful lift ride up the mountain, and once we got to the lodge, every single person working there was incredibly nice and helpful. The kids and I took ski lessons, and after a few trips up there, both kids also took snowboard lessons. The instructors are all great! My family had such a great time, we bought season passes and kept going up all season. Until you ride the lift up, you have NO idea the amount of trails that June has to offer. It is absolutely beautiful, and the wait is never long. It's an amazing hidden gem. The entire June Mountain staff made every trip fun. The kids had a blast and we are definitely buying season passes again for the upcoming season.
Planning a wedding? Imagine an outdoor wedding with a view of the jagged peaks of the High Sierras, June Lakes, and out to Mono Lake. The guests and bridal party take a gentle ride of the incredibly scenic mountain, a short walk to the wedding platform and then a short walk for the dinner reception inside a beautiful chalet with stone fireplace and picture windows. As advised by the photographer (Brandon Russell of Minaret Photography), we held the wedding at 5 PM. Guests were given the choice of coming up by moon ship or moon buggy (lift or four wheel drive). The Director of the mountain, Abby Ross, was outstanding in every way and made herself completely available for planning and set up starting on Wednesday before the Saturday wedding. The attendants, staff, food staff, flower staff, music….all were excellent. We were able to take our stuff up to the beautifully situated Chalet for the event. The bride chose to use the nearby Double Eagle Lodge for pre wedding preparations including a spa dip. It is only a few minutes away. The entire wedding party (including father with the bride, mom, bridesmaids, groomsmen and flower girl) processed up the mountain by perfectly timed and spaced chair lift to complete the ceremony on an open air platform. By the way Brandan of Mineret Photography and Jeff of Cellar Door Photography were absolutely superb….I mean SUPERB!
June Mountain has re-opened this year. Unfortunately there hasn't been as much snow as hoped for, but enough to have a good ski day. The mountain isn't as huge as Mammoth Mountain, but the runs are fun, and the lift lines are small. Many Owens Valley locals go here. This year children under 12 ski for free. And a lot of elders ski here, too, like me because it's not as overwhelming as Mammoth, but there are still challenging runs for more advanced folks. It's got amazing views from the lodge where you can eat your lunch while seeing Gull, June, and Mono Lakes. There are 2 mountains at this resort- Rainbow Mountain and June Mountain. From the top of June Mountain you can even see Boundary Peak in Nevada. Love this place.
