A classic 2.5 round trip on paved path around the lake is a Lafayette tradition. Many groups meet Saturday or Sunday AM for a stroll/talk. Others are jogging/dog walking. Big line of cars waiting to pay for parking after 10:30 am on weekends. Try the rim trail (dirt) above/around for a real work out.

LR is one of the best places to enjoy a walk around the resevoir or a more difficult hike on the upper rim. It's a very special place. There are boats to rent, play structures for children, picnic tables for all to enjoy.

The paths were easy to maneuver and clean. We had beautiful sunshine. THe water was a little low but who can control the rainfall? Beautiful

Two levels make it pefect for the casual walker as well as the fitness enthusiast. The lower trail is about 3 miles with a few moderate hills. The upper trail is more challenging. They just added more hourly parking. Great playground for young kids too!

This place has so much going for it! Great weather you can pretty much count on all year, beautiful, open, well cared for park. Places for picnic lunch or dinner, leisurely strolling or jogging on the trails. Rent a paddle boat! Take a few hours off and enjoy the great outdoors, on your own, with friends and/or family! You won't regret it :D caveat: pay to park, convenient parking lot

I like to walk around the trails. There are nice picnic grounds here, paddle boat and canoe rentals. Many people fish here. You have to pay to park, and it can be crowded on weekends. It is a beautiful place to come on a spring day, or anytime you want to take a long walk in a beautiful place

This is the ideal place for a quick walk, with friends or solo. Very lightly sloped or level for most of the way, paved and easy to do. The view of the reservoir makes it even more calming!

East Bay Municipal Utility District owns and operates this beautiful park in Lafayette. When I still lived in the area my Dad and I used to fish here extensively, going after trout and bluegill. It's been almost 35 years since I'd been back and I'm very impressed with the improvements that have been made and how the park has been maintained. The five mile walking trail around the lake is a great start if you're visiting for the first time. It'll take you completely around the lake although, be advised, it can be a little hilly, so take your time and enjoy the view. There are also plenty of picnic areas and a large children's play area. Parking has been improved (again, it's been 35 years since my last visit!) so maybe it's not "new" per-se! Note that there is a charge to park: all day of $7 as of the date of this review or you can use metered parking. Check the website for current rates. If you like fishing ...I recall catching lots of trout, bluegill and crappie here. There is also small and large mouth bass, catfish and, supposedly, white sturgeon. The last was news to me. Apparently, CA DFG planted them there some years ago.If you like hiking ...There are miles and miles of trails here. It is beautiful. Make sure to bring a camera as the views are awesome and the scenery excellent. There are a lot of deer and turkeys as well. You may see cat prints as well (the wild kind). If you like geocaching ...Local cachers have placed a lot of caches here. A lot. We managed to find five. Some require some strenuous hiking while others you may have to navigate through poison oak. Be a little careful. Bring a camera ... as I mentioned, the scenery is excellent. If you like recreational boating ...First, come during summer. We were there the last week of December 2014 and it's simply too cold to be on the lake. My youngest wanted to take out one of the little paddle wheelers but it must have been 40 degrees by the water. We'll visit again during summer. The facility rents aluminum rowboats for fishing and the little two-seat paddle boats. If you like biking ...Please check the website. The park only allows bikes, Razors and such on the main trail during certain hours. I thought it was a bit restrictive until I saw the number of walkers. Then it made sense. They're just trying to make sure that everyone has access. I recall biking a lot here when I was little (35 years ago) and there weren't any restrictions then. Of course, there weren't as many people then.In short, this park is one of the better parks I've been too and has something for everyone. If you're visiting the area, make it a point to stop by and take a walk here. It's well worth the trip!

A lovely place to come for an hour or two; bring the kids and stay all day. It's a really wonderful place. Fish, hike, play. Lots of events there too. Bring a picnic!

We enjoy even the short walk (less than 3 miles) around the lake edge. If it is hot, there is shade; if it is chilly, there are trees to block the wind. The views change every 100 feet as you walk around, with some elevation change but not a lot unless you take the longer (7 mile) route. The path is wide and is paved all the way around. There are rest rooms at the marina and campground-type restrooms around the lake trail. You can go all the way around the lake with a stroller or wheelchair. Dogs are welcome on leash. The lake has various amenities, boat rentals, food, etc. There are picnic areas that you can reserve. Some people fish, but I don't know how successful they are. The habitat is lovely, and has remained so even though we have been in a long period of drought lately. There is no fee except for the parking.

It's flat, near water, has restrooms and is paved. This being said it's perfect for family strolls with everyone young and old. Great for post Thanksgiving walks, people watching and getting fresh air. This place has parking adjacent or down the road requiring a perfect warm up before your spin. The location, anytime of the year, wreaks healthy activity by circumventing the lake with your favorite movements..

The Lafayette Reservoir is a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind! Nestled in the hills above Lafayette, this gem of a park has a lot to offer those who like the great outdoors. My favorite attraction is the 2.75 mile path that surrounds the lake. It is great for walkers and affords a very cool hour long program. It may not sound line much, but definitely be prepared to break a sweat! Beautiful scenery and very peaceful, for sure. Parking can be a pain up top, so I usually park down on Mt. Diablo Blvd. The additional trek up the hill is a great warm up to start the workout. I recommend the Lafayette Reservoir for anyone who wants to get outside, break a sweat and soak up some sun!
