The upper lake is dry, now filled only by rain runoff after construction of Lake Jennings cut off creek supply. The lower lake is filled by pumps. Birding here can be productive, especially in winter when waterfowl numbers and variety increase. Gulls, Common Gallinule, Black-crowned Night-Heron, and Wood Duck are among expected species in late winter, early spring.
