Full disclosure, I have been a wine club member for several years. But every time I visit the tasting room, it only reinforces why I am a member. The wine is very good, and I'll put it up against any in the region. If you find yourself at the tasting room, you'll likely run into Larry, the winemaker. He is very friendly, and not at all the pretentious type you might be accustomed to. He has a wide variety of wines, and if you come in for a tasting, be prepared to taste for a bit. Larry is a no-nonsense winemaker who does not provide tasting notes, but simply lets you do the tasting on your own, which is very refreshing. And speaking from personal experience, their wine club is the most flexible club I can imagine-- you will not receive surprise shipments, or the winery dumping undesirable wine in the shipment to their members. If you are in Los Olivos, this is a can't miss tasting room. And as an added bonus, Larry now makes homemade bread, which may be available to munch on while tasting some rhône style blends. A win-win for all.

My husband and I were on a trip to Solvang and while visiting we traveled to Los Olivos and stumbled upon this wine tasting room.... wow! The wines were poured by the owner and they were all delicious. We plan on returning!

Just ok. Atmosphere was more like a 'bar'. It was crowded. We stopped in because we saw it on the way back to the car. Met one of the owners. He was pouring, He seemed nice enough although wasn't really interested in his political views and why he left southern california to move there. Other than that, it was alright.

Huge Fan of Old World style Rose/Dry Euro Style .The Tercero Rose of Mouvedre is authentic to Rhone Valley FR roots.Plentiful CA sunshine gives ripe round character found in certain Tavel or Bandol .XLNT effort by an artisan winemaker.

I travel frequently to the Solvang/Los Olivos area and had never stopped by Tercero until our last trip in February. Larry, the winemaker, was personally there pouring the wines and sharing his knowledge with all of the guests. It was a nice surprise and I was happy to have had the chance to speak directly with him. Besides that opportunity, Larry really knows his stuff - that is best demonstrated by his quality wines. We enjoyed all of the pours we had (even the white wines, that's rare for us) and look forward to our next trip there.

I first learned of Tercero wines on the TA forums when planning my wine tasting itinerary for our recent trip to the area. The Tercero tasting room is located in downtown Los Olivos, with a number of other tasting rooms also nearby. Very convenient for doing some serious sampling.Winemaker/owner Larry Schaffer came in during our tasting and provide much interesting additional commentary about the wines. He specializes in mostly Rhone varietals, with a few other varietals (such as gewürztraminer) that aren't on a lot of wineries' repertoire. Larry is obviously enthusiastic about his wines, and believes in what he's doing -- it seems he follows his instincts and isn't concerned about what the other guys are doing. Prices are pretty reasonable and the quality is also quite good. We came home with several of his bottles.

Heard about their dry Gewürztraminer and had to try it. This place is around the corner one block off Grand. As advertised, the Gewurtztraminer was very dry, crisp and refreshing. We bought five over two separate visits. Also liked and bought the Viognier, Mourvèdre and Grenache blanc. Tasting room is small, but functional with good service.

I found this winery on a Santa Barbara Groupon and without a doubt, it has been one of the best money spent on Groupon! The tasting room is located on a side street across from a coffee shop and is probably one of the smaller tasting rooms in the area, however don't let the size fool you, there are some great wines to be had here. The winemaker Larry was pouring wines and other than a wine tour in Aix-en-Provenance, I don't believe I've ever been so well informed about the art of wine making. It was our first time there, but it won't be our last.

I was walking off a big lunch I had at Los Olivos Cafe and thought I'd look for a new tasting room. A short walk down Alamo Pintado, around the corner, and there is a sign for tercero. It's a small room, very clean and they had a nice selection of wines. Their prices were reasonable and (for the first time I can remember) they didn't charge me the usual $10-15 tasting fee because I bought a few bottles of wine.Larry was there in the tasting room, letting me give some feedback on the 2 rose wines I tried, as well to share some of his views.Be sur eto take the walk off of Grand and find this gem.
