Beautiful forest, very tranquil early in the morning. Be sure to arrive early. We went into the woods right when it opened and enjoyed the peaceful walk. By the time we left, only an hour later, the parking lots were full and it was a very different experience. Paths are paved and easy to walk around, although I think there are harder trails for the more experienced hiker.

Towering redwoods, redwood creek, great hiking in beautiful surroundings. Great drive up from SF through the Marin headlands. Will never forget this beauty that goes straight through to your heart.

I have never been to a place like this before. Those coastal redwoods are between 500-800 years old. They are the tallest trees on earth. Redwood trees can be seen at northern California and China. I am so happy that we took that trip to Muir Woods National Monument. It was very inspiring to be among those trees.

I'm seventy so I paled into insignificance against this beautiful tall redwoods. Majestic, awe inspiring and beautiful. The bark is thick and runs in endless patterns that mesmerise. We were on a tour and did NOT have sufficient time before we were hauled off to Sausalito which was very drab and dull in comparison with the trees. An afternoon in February meant it was un-crowded and peaceful as we walked up the trail. Don't go to SF and not take a trip to Muir Woods. The tall trees are quite different from the California Sequoia else where but just as exciting to see

$7 per adult to see, smell and hike through amazing redwood forests? Wow. Totally worth it. Make sure you dress in layers and plan on spending at least a few hours there. ARRIVE EARLY!! We got there just before 9 am and the second parking lot was almost full. By the time we were finished around 12:30, people parked for miles down the street.

The Muir Woods National Monument is a paradise for tree lovers. The place offers very peaceful, serene long walks among the beautiful, majestic redwood trees. It contains 6 miles of trails. There is a 1/2 hour loop, a 1 hour loop, and a 1 1/2 hour loop as well as longer hikes on trails that extend into surrounding Mount Tamalpais State Park. The trails are easy and can be covered comfortably. We did the 1 1/2 hour loop as didn't have time for the longer hikes. There is an entrance fee of $7 per adult. The following dates are fee free in 2015:April 18-19 - First Weekend of National Park Week, August 25 - National Park Service Birthday, September 26 - National Public Lands Day, November 11 - Veterans Day.But if you plan to visit the Muir Woods during the above mentioned dates, do come early as the parking gets filled. Then you will have to parallel park along the road. The park opens as early as 8AM.I would recommend this place as a must do if you are in San Francisco.

Beautiful redwood trees, 1/2 hr from downtown San Fran, tucked away in a National Park close to the Pacific Ocean. Fresh air and extraordinary trees. The free park map does not give enough information; buy one of the maps at the entrance. We walked along looking at trees and ended up climbing shockingly steep grades due to the aforementioned map. It was a great day none-the-less. A must see!

Marmylayde

This was a site to see being from Texas, these trees were amazing. The air was nice and cool and we thoroughly enjoyed our hike and taking pictures of each other.
