had a really interesting and fun tour of the B Bryan Preserve - our tour guide Judy was personable, patient and really informative. We had time at each animal enclosure, sometimes with no fence or barrier between us and the animals, and we could get out of the Jeep to get a closer look. The giraffe feeding was the highlight, we all had a chance to give the giraffes apple slices, it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend this tour!
Glad to hear other visitors had such a wonderful time at their tour. We had the husband for our tour guide and he was rude and condescending. After being with him a short time and having him make us feel like we were just tag-alongs while he made his rounds at feeding time I was trying to ask good questions and be friendly because he wasn't telling us much about the animals. He mentioned that some animals had been transported to Ca. from Mississippi so I asked how do you transport animals like these; what is that like? He said, "Just like anything else." That was it; that was his answer! And so that's how it went for us. Every question we had was answered vaguely and as if he was barely tolerating us, because after all, we had paid him $60 and that just helped feed his animals. The animals are wonderful and it's great that they have a wonderful wide open place to live and they are well taken care of. Just make sure you get the tour by the wife.
The Preserve was this year's location for our annual sister reunion, and what an excellent choice. We WILL return. The Chapel Cottage is beautifully appointed and was perfect for the 3 of us. The work that our hosts, Judy and Frank, are doing is overwhelmingly incredible and quite informative. What a wonderful contribution they are making on this planet!
We highly recommend spending two nights and really experiencing these amazing African hoof stock animals and the dedication of the owners.
This was my second visit and I will return again....and again! All the animals are amazing from the orphaned baby zebra to the tall giraffe. You are able to get up close and pet the giraffe or feed them a snack. The zebra are beautiful. Such a great cause and fun way to support this wonderful Preserve.
If you want to go to an exciting place, where your money will be well spent and for a great cause, then this is the place. The people who own and run this place take so much pride in their animals. The animals are visibly happy and could not be taken care of any better. There is NO guilt feeling upon leaving (feeling sorry for animals, it's not a zoo) because you will possibly be jealous that you dont live there too. you will learn A TON, and then get kissed by a giraffe (most likely). Please visit this place, you and whoever you bring will never forget it!! We will definitely be going back. Thank you so much B Bryan Preserve!!!
I thought this was a bit pricey but the reviews were so good we gave it a try. It was definitely worth it. I brought a group of teens here and we all loved it. It is so different from a zoo or even many wildlife parks. The animals are close, there is lots of each kind, and guide was knowledgeable about them in a very personal way. I will never forget being ”kissed” by a giraffe. Fantastic.
Going on an African safari on the Coast! Our sons had the best time feeding the animals especially "Mayzie", one of the five male giraffes at the preserve. The zebra, antelope and giraffes were especially active during feeding time. We also enjoyed Stornetta Public Lands and Bowling Bowl Beach - breathtaking! This is a "must-do"!
We stayed here for two nights recently in the cottage house. Its a cosy little place with two bedrooms and a full kitchen and living room with a garage. Our family loved it. The highlight was the safari tour where our son got to feed a giraffe. I did not realize the sheer number of zebras, Antelops, Giraffes and other animals they take care off. I probably requires lot of work to feed them and take care of them. They are also able to roam in a vast area and not caged. On a sunday morning we woke up and found no water and called Judy. She informed us that there had been a pipe that was broken and were getting it fixed. Not sure how they found a plumber and parts in a town of 423 people on a Sunday morning!!!. They fixed it in 2 hours as we went out for a lazy drive and breakfast. We came home to a hot shower and just in time to head out to see the light house. She was even kind enough to let my son have a T-Shirt for the troubles caused. Would love to come back again.
What a treat! We stayed two nights in the cottage where there is two beds, a kitchen, bathroom, and a TV, for a low price. Be sure to visit Stornetta Public Lands and Bowling Bowl Beach - beautiful! Kissing a giraffe and petting a baby zebra for a good cause is just heartwarming!
As strange as it may seem, yes, there are African mammals living in Point Arena. The caretakers are caring for wild zebras, antelope, and giraffes on a large refuge. The 90-minute tour is not cheap, but was well worth the price to both see and hear about what is being done, and to know that we are helping in the effort to preserve endangered species. The guides were very knowledgeable and obviously love what they're doing. The small garden was fun to stroll through as well.
This was a terrific stay for the whole family. The accommodations were superb, and the tour was a real treat. The area also boasts lovely walks around the ocean and a great secluded beach.
We did B. Bryan Preserve's tour yesterday, on a day's notice. This Preserve is a labor of love to shelter remnants of these African hoofed species, a few of many under siege at home from overpopulation and development. The tour is 90+ minutes, basically accompanying our guide (and co-founder) Frank as he made inspection rounds and fed most animals. Some walking, mostly riding in his vintage Land Rover. Photography welcome, not much need for longer lenses. This is a private non-profit preserve, collaborating with other such, and with zoos and research universities. These public tours are welcome but aren't the primary task. Nonetheless Frank is a fine guide - he's frank, not focused on entertainment, but on informing those interested in preserving species diversity and genetics. The giraffes do entertain: tall blondes with eyelashes to die for, who will eat from your (and your kids') hands. They are astonishing animals, as is the fact some subspecies are seriously endangered. The zebra and antelope are beautiful in their own ways, and also endangered.
Wife and baby and I went here on a recent getaway trip to Mendocino. We had never heard of the preserve and just stumbled across it in a tourist brochure at our hotel. It definitely had a small time amateurish feel, but that's kind of what made it cool. Our guide (her name escapes me now) is one of the owners and she was great. She shared the usual info on the animals, but what was even more interesting is that she seemed to know each one of them by name and personality - almost like she views them as pets. All of the animals were amazing and we got surprisingly up close views of them. Like everyone, I'm sure, the giraffes were our favorite. It was lots of fun to feed them by hand and to see those gentle giants up close and personal. We would definitely go back again. As for the grumpy guy mentioned in so many other reviews. . . yes, he's there too and yes he is quite grumpy. Fortunately, we had his wife for our guide and she was great. We had only limited interaction with the husband, when we first arrived and when we were leaving. He's every bit as unfriendly as the other reviews suggest. We learned that the lady guide works mostly just on weekends, so you may want to take that into account if you visit. But even with a grumpy guide, I think it would be a worthwhile place to visit.
We found out about B Bryan Preserve from friends that spend a lot of time in Sea Ranch. We (myself and two young daughters) made a reservation for a Sunday afternoon tour. Arriving a little early, we enjoyed walking around the grounds and meeting one of the resident cats, "Little". The tour was lots of fun, and informative. The wife was our guide (believe she leads most weekend tours); she is funny but also extremely knowledgeable. We saw two foal, many zebra's and antelope, and were able to feed the giraffes! This is a very special place, and certainly makes people aware of, while supporting, an incredibly important cause.
