This is definitely not a Tahoe-style resort, and that's a great thing! This place is simple, easy, small, friendly and fun. There aren't really any lines. There isn't anything for sale except lift tickets and food and drinks. There aren't crowds. Arrive, rent your skis (I was first in line one day, and second in line the next), get your lift ticket, get your gear on and be on the lifts in 20 minutes. Every single staff member will smile, explain and help and will accommodate the best they can. My daughter is a somewhat experienced skier. After I went down with her a couple of times and saw the runs and the friendly helpful people on them, I was comfortable letting her go without me while I focused on helping my son learn to ride up and ski down. Shasta is small enough that we could always find each other quickly and easily. I told the life operators that my son was new and they enthusiastically helped him and slowed down the life for him. People checked in on him and offered lots of encouragement. There are three lifts. One (marmot) has all green and blue trails. We stuck to that one and there were plenty of trail options to keep us busy for two days. The other two (Douglas and Coyote) are predominately black diamond (although Douglas does a really fun looking blue run), so we stayed off of those lifts. We ended our second day, exhausted, happy and really glad we had ended our year on Shasta. The Après-ski at the bar located there was pretty fun, too, with a good view of people coming down off the mountain. The only negatives are: they ran out of child helmets our first day (maybe bring your own?); there were some dangerously icy patches, especially at intersections; most of green slopes coalesce to end in a steep curve that really unnerved many beginning skiers and snowboarders.
i always ski at Mt Shasta since it is quite affordable in a beautiful area and friendly staff... What we can call fa low key place!Season after season we try to stop for a weekend or half week.
Nice and safe skiing place with good coaching available for beginners. Fun place to spend a weekend with friends.
I drove up here with husband right after Christmas for a ski lesson. There was no natural snow, just man-made. One run was open (level 3). My husband bought a (reduced price) ticket and rode down the run all day. I was put in a class with Ben. He was VERY helpful and did a great job of teaching the basics. I purchased the "guaranteed to ski" package, which gets you as many lessons as it takes to get you up a level 2 lift with an instructor. Since there was no level 2 lift open, I got three lessons and a voucher to come back again for another when a level 2 run is open. I was thrilled! The nachos with chili were excellent. The staff went above and beyond in every way, and were extremely friendly. The equipment room people asked all about our day, and the ski lift operator complimented me on my improved skills (awww, thanks dude!). When I called the day before to book the lesson, the woman I talked to on the phone was very professional and helpful about what to expect/bring/wear. Everyone was so nice! The music playing on the bunny hill put us both in a great mood, and the FREE tubing (with ticket) was a lot of fun as well. The tubing workers could not have been friendlier to every darn kid (and adult) that passed through. We had so much fun we extended our trip and came back another day as well.I can't wait for this park to open back up. Great community feeling and friendly people. We will definitely return time and time again. I am so glad my first ski experience was on this mountain, and that my intermediate-skilled husband had a great time as well!
Three lifts, tons of great runs, never too crowded even when parking lot is full. Great terrain park or tree skiing/boarding for those wanting to take it to that level.
No lines, super friendly people, cheap lift tickets and well groomed trails. There was live music in the little bar, and night skiing was a blast. We've been about 6 times already this winter!
This isn't Tahoe and that is more positive than negative. We like the family atmosphere, the fact that walking to and from your car is easy and the fact that you can easily get into double digits on your number of runs even if it is a beautiful weekend day. I had great boarding instruction from Mike who succeeded in getting me to toe turn.Live music in the bar is fun too.It is small and not ritzy. It lacks some of the aesthetic amenities that you get at a Lake Tahoe resort but this is a great place to learn and a great place to hone your already strong ski/boarding skills
Great place for families and beginner/Intermediate skiers. Very predictable drive time to Mount Shasta. Rarely do traffic or bad highway conditions slow things to a crawl. Once at the park, there is easy access to the mountain, friendly staff, and decent facilities. I agree with other posts, this is more of a cruiser's place than a bunch of downhill runs. Still, the trails will keep you occupied for a day or two. This is not a high-end ski experience, but it's a great and affordable place to take the kids to get then used to skiing. Also, Mount Shasta is simply a beautiful spot.
Well, when you arrive the service is excellent; however, after being their a few hours it gets boring. There's few trails to use so after some time I was bored.
We have skied all over the world and are extremely concerned about the hazardous conditions (no safety bars on chair lifts) and out of control snowboarders (with no oversight) at Mt. Shasta ski park.
Greatresort. Not many runs but good variety, and enough for a couple of fun days.Good park.Slow lifts.Quiet slopes.Fantastic value! With a ski free voucher you can ski for as little as 8 bucks!Recommend!
Well it might have been the perfect day as we went but even with just 3 lifts they have a lot of different slope options. All of them are in the middle of the woods, were in perfect condition. I had to get used to no security systems on the lifts. But the staff and resort were well organized, friendly and in happy mood the road was snowy, so better bring a 4x4 or chains.
Weak. Sorry, but it's true. Especially compared to other places in the NW and West. Most CA skiiers probably think it's OK. Low elevation means scant, heavy snow. Runs mostly beginner cruiser type.
Shasta is a great little resort, within driving distance of Redding, southern Oregon, and even Sacramento. This place reminds me of Lake Tahoe 30 years ago. Friendly, small, uncrowded runs, short lift lines. There is plenty of terrain served by the 3 chairlifts that they operate.
Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park is very small, as far as ski parks go, with three lifts it can be a quick trip to the bottom, but for a family that is looking for a fun winter spot that doesn't cost a bundle, it's a great option. The area is pristine, people are nice, cheap hotels a-plenty, and easy access from I-5. The runs are groomed diligently, and the food and beverage accommodations are very good. They also feature live music and fun events throughout the season. A great affordable place to ski in Northern Ca. Also, never ever crowded. A "long" lift line might mean 5 minutes of chit chatting with the person next to you, whom you have never met...
