The Museum is right off of the Interstate. It always has interesting Exhibits and Displays. There is plenty of Parking. There are lovely toilets and Delicious Mt. Shasta Water in the water fountain. It is Steps away from a State run Fish Breeding Farm with Many Enormous TROUT in open pens for Viewing and Feeding. There are tables to picnic or sit.BEST of all is the INCREDIBLE view of Mt. Shasta, from those tables!
We came upon the Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum and Fish Hatchery by chance. This is a great little museum packed with local history and environmental information specific to the Mt Shasta region. Be sure to spend some time browsing the display boards (I especially liked the displays on lenticular cloud formations) and artifacts then head outside to see the fish hatchery. This area has a long history of producing quality trout for the sport fisherman. I especially liked the natural looking fish runs that this hatchery uses for some of it's trout. Splurge and buy some of the pellet food and watch those beautiful rainbows race to eat it!
So glad this was open. We stopped by the fish hatchery and were lucky that the museum was open today. So much great information on the area and the history of the people that settled the area. Worth the stop!
Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum shares the same property as the Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery. You can feed and view the fish at the hatchery and visit the museum too. The fish food is twenty-five cents and the museum only costs $1/person.The museum contains changing exhibits on the history, science, and culture of the Mount Shasta area. There is a 100-year old fire truck that you can sit on to get your photo taken, activities for the kids, and interesting displays to help you learn about the Mount Shasta area. The museum also has flyers about other things to do in and around Mount Shasta and a great gift store. This is a great place to visit to help plan the rest of your stay in the area and/or it's a fun way to break up your trip down I-5!
