My husband and I ate breakfast at Soule Park both mornings of our short stay in Ojai. The first morning was before a round of golf, and the next morning we went back there although not playing at Soule Park that day. All four breakfasts were perfect and prices were hard to beat. Staff are friendly and always on hand. The lovely log fire in the middle of the dining area was very welcome on a chilly November morning.
This course is a bargain and beautiful. The staff in the pro shop was extremely helpful for me as I wanted to play early and they got me out, almost first. It is challenging but fair course nestled in a beautiful spot. I did hear the donkey bray and the dogs bark as well. I would play this course again in a heartbeat. Play it.
I played Soule Park 0730 on a Friday morning. Greens fee is under $50 including GPS cart. You are likely to see a dozen variety of wildlife in a four hour round. This, along with the beautiful views, make Soule a great experience. The course is vast and offers fast greens, stimp 10+, and challenging bunkers. The cart paths are bumpy and vary from cement, to hardpan, to loose rock. This is not a problem as long as you're willing to ease along rather than charge from tee to green.Playing tips: 1>If the green looks like it's on a high spot take one extra club. There are several holes which deliver a harse penalty for coming up short. 2> Most fairways look grip it and rip it width, but picking a spot is critical to good scoring. 3>If a pin looks like it's hanging on the corner of the green play to the center, trust me. Have a great day at Soule, chances are you'll want to do it again.
Soule park is a great spot to golf. Half the price of the Inn and just as nice. Great Ojai secret. Golf there if you have the chance.
Due to the drought the fairways were very dry but playable. The greens were in great shape with big rolling (4') bumps so putting is critical. Would play this again. Much better price that at the big Ojai course. They were having trouble with the cart mounted GPS so would call ahead if that is important. Likely fixed by now.
I was a guest at an away member-guest, and enjoyed my first round here. I used to live in California, have played many times in the state, but it was my first visit to Ojai. Soule Park is a magnificent golf experience. The course itself is maintained to a high standard by public play standards - it's not perfect, but it's darned good. The magnificent setting is what sets it apart - almost every shot and view is up against the spectacular mountain vistas. I agree with a review written mid-summer - the Par 3s are extraordinarily difficult, the Par 4s are challenging, and the Par 5s are reachable. I can't wait to come back and try again. This place is almost perfect!
Soule Park is ideal for a beginner or an advanced player. The people at the pro shop enjoy helping the clueless get started, and are deft at getting things going for the top players. Soule is rated as one of the top public courses in the nation, and they show a warmth, class and charm that many private courses would do well to emulate. From the first hole on, you become lost in the splendor of Ojai. Soon you feel as though you are in another land as you wander among towering oaks, against the backdrop of the mountains. The water stations provide pure iced water so delicious even the drinkers in the party will crave it.Around the 12th hole an incredibly loud, braying donkey can be heard but not seen, which adds to the charm. Another hole peeks up against the local Humane Society where dogs will remind golfers that a perfect way to celebrate an excellent round of golf is to pop in an adopt a pet.Other than that, the only thing you will here are birds and an occasional plea to play through. The prices lay waste to the claim that golf is a rich man's game. An excellent experience from start to finish.
Soule Park is located in a beautiful setting, excellent value, great staff and quality food. They have banquet facilities and a golf shop/pro.
Beautiful course and wonderful setting. Hard to believe this place is located so close to Los Angeles
Soule Park is a beautiful golf course, cradled in a low valley amid high mountains with a challenging layout and quick, devilish greens. It has tough par 3s and difficult par 4s and accessible par 5s...perfect.For a public golf course, it's a jewel. Very affordable. Very friendly. And usually not very crowded, although it has been the site of numerous regional golf events of late. And is host to a qualifying round for the U.S. Senior Open next week, june 19, 2013. In short, this is a terrific course. Low pressure from a friendly staff. A good bar and restaurant. And fine golf. Overall, a better golf experience than the Ojai Valley Inn, at a fraction of the price.
Great golf, elevated tees, as good as Ojai Country Club. $25.00 instead of $250. Challenging course. Go to Deer Lodge afterwards, relax, it's all good. Relaxation capital of California.
It really is a picturesque golf course and the layout is outstanding. The downside is they need to tear up the greens n start over. Dont get me wrong, the greens roll great, the problem is I feel like I'm putting at golf n stuff. Ridiculous humps and mounds. Except for the par 3's almost every hole has this false front with a huge mound in front which means you can never really see the hole, just a portion of the pin. There is no way to really know what shot to hit in to the flag. Whoever designed the greens made a huge mistake. Too bad because it's such a great setting.
Lovely location to meet with a bar that appeared open always and a grill that appears open at most eating times.
First it is public and not expensive. Soule Park Golf Course has been completely renovated. Located in the Ojai Valley surrounded by mountains, water, bridges, trees, and views that will knock your socks off! Great staff, great bar and restaurant too!
Monday night football is fun. They seem a little disorganized, but the food is pretty good, and the crowd is friendly.
