The people who volunteer/work here were so helpful and friendly - they took out a map to show us exactly where to go next, and discussed (it seemed) every possible next step with us, asking us more than the standard questions to make sure they were giving the correct information. It's in a strip mall, which seems odd at first, but walk past Gandolfo's Deli and you'll reach the Visitor's Center. We parked on the side and walked over - plenty of parking and minimal people made this a breeze.
Thank you for visiting, please come again as we love to see local folks and from afar visitors at the California Welcome Center.
It was our first stop upon arrival in Oxnard. It's in part of a large strip mall though so you can easily wonder if you're going to the right place. You won't see it from the road, but you will see their signs with arrows pointing you in the right direction. What you will see is the restaurant: New York Gandolfo's when you turn down the street its on. It's next to them.
You can buy your wow pass tickets to the Ventura County Fair every year. It allows you to go everyday and saves a lot of money. They also have cold water while you browse around the great events Oxnard has to offer. Also for sale are local jar preserves and other assorted crafts.
Once we found this place, we discovered it was worth the search. There were initially signs along the streets pointing in the direction of the center, then POOF, we saw no more. It is in a mall area behind Target anbd next to Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que. You must pay for parking on the street, so plan on a 20 minute stay. The fellow working here was so helpful, we invited him to be our tour guide for the day! He has lived in the area for over thirty years, so knew the sites in Oxnard and surrounding cities and had many recommendations. If this is your first visit to the area, I recommend you stop here first.
The volunteers here are very knowledgeable, and very helpful with lots of info on every area in California. Good way to get your bearings and get some great ideas about places to stop and see!
I visited this welcome center to get information on local things to do for friends who were going to be here for a lengthy trip. I was surprised at the amount of information available throughout California. Loved the information, but think the location leaves much to be desired. It's too far from the freeway and hard to find.
This center needs so many more signs to make it user-friendly. My feeling is it would be better located near the new Target Store area - right in the midst of all the stores we hope one day will get their act together and finally open. Why should it be tucked way out of the way where it is hard to find? I say, move it to the main area of RiverPark.
CA Welcome Center 1000 Town Center Drive Oxnard 93036 Unit 135, 6 story building with outside separate entrance. We hoped to find tasting discount coupons for some of the wineries we had scheduled for our trip. We did not get any coupons, but did find a couple broshures of value to our trip.
