A CA native, was able to take my bf 'home' for a visit, we drove several sections of Hwy 1 between Monterey and SF., Pigeon Point was his favorite view. Unfortunately, too short a trip to spend anytime on the beach.
The draw to this area at first is the lighthouse and it is very nice. However, we like to park on the side road, take a walk through the diverse ground coverage which is pretty as well, and find the hidden sand beaches. We enjoy these beaches as often we are lucky and can enjoy the area to ourselves. For the photographer, we recommend this area. It has the lighthouse and scenic ocean. We have visited numerous times and for us, this area is always one of the highlights on the drive between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz.
Pigeon Point as a whole is quite a treat.Often used by LA film and TV to portray US coasts (usually misidentified as Maine!), it may even look familiar to you.The point has varied scenery, from dunes and cliffs covered in ice plant, to the light house complex, to fields and mountains behind it - and plenty of wildlife. Birds, seals, otters, sometimes elephant seals and whales can be seen. The beach itself is pretty and you've always got the view of the light house.Sadly, the light house is slowly being repaired, so you can't go in it and the fence around it is ugly! But you can still get the sense of it. Hostel in the old buildings, as well as a small museum run by the volunteers who are trying to fund the restoration, so do support them.Bathrooms available. Parking can be a bit challenging on busy weekends.Windy, cool and often foggy too.
Despite the weather was not cooperating, this is where I took some nice iconic pictures from California.
We visited right at sunset, it was beautiful. Let the photos speak for the beauty, although no matter how good the pictures are, they can't compare with seeing it yourself!
this is a good place to take tourist who want to see the coast a la natural, very picturesque, and no tourist traps, just a pretty beach, very open and usually never crowded,
For a quick stop at a beach, this one is it. Right by the small road next to Hwy 1. It is often windy in this area, so layer up.
A turn of the century lighthouse is pretty cool to see. Sadly the fencing around the structure limit's access and can obstruct photo's unless you get creative. Historical markers are cool to read. Hostel right there if you are into that type of arrangements.
One of my first excursions after I moved out here from the east coast, trully a beautiful site!
Não cheguei a ir na praia, pois o clima não estava ajudando, apenas curti a bela vista e já valeu a pena!
Local muito agradável em meio a natureza. Praia maravilhosa. Certamente poderá tirar lindas fotos neste local.
