My husband, daughter and son-in-law and I have visited Karmere twice. Although each of those experiences were different, we enjoyed our time at Karmere both times. The first visit was in May of 2013 to celebrate my birthday. I believe that time of year to be a little more laid back since it is not peak season in the area. We were a small group of only a few visitors, and enjoyed taking our time and talking a lot with the Wine Hosts behind the bar. The exterior of the Tasting Room building is beautiful, as is the Tasting Room itself. I had chosen to visit Karmere in particular for my birthday because, of course we wanted to do some wine tasting, but I also thought it would be a great place to have a picnic lunch. Before our trip, I had done some research on local wineries and saw some photos that other visitors had posted of the gorgeous surroundings there. The grounds and landscaping at Karmere Winery did not disappoint. They have a beautifully manicured tiered lawn area, as well as a large patio adjacent to the vines. The vista from the picnic grounds is beautiful. It was a great way to spend my birthday! We were planning to have another picnic there during our last visit this past Fall, but it was a rainy day and the patio is not fully covered. Our second visit to Karmere was at the beginning of November. Fall is a busier time of year in El Dorado and Amador Counties. As well as the many wineries to visit, Apple Hill in Camino is in full swing and attracts many visitors to the area this time of year. I must say, compared to our first visit to Karmere in May the year before, there were quite a few more people in the Wine Tasting Room. I would say it was pretty crowded. Although the main tasting bar was full, the Wine Tasting staff had a couple auxiliary bars set up in the room in order to accommodate all of their guests, so we still got that great sense of being welcome. As before the Wine Host was very friendly and fun to talk with, and there was never a feeling of being rushed even though they were very busy.We really enjoy their wines, and love the creativity of their wine labels, One red blend called Temperance Tarts comes in a fun jug-shaped bottle. We ended up joining their Wine Club on our last time there. Karmere is an all around great winery to visit. Beautiful surroundings, tasty wines, and a friendly staff. What more can you ask for?
This is a dont miss. Great wines, great people, great property. Hayley is awesome, and this place has a great history to learn about, which helps create the wine names.
Karmere is a must-stop winery in the Shenadoah Valley. It's in a beautiful setting, a lovely French provincial building with excellent wines, friendly and knowledgable pourers (who pour a generous sample) and no tasting fee. Try the Empress Juana Primabera--a delicious blend of Primitivo and Barbera.
We were recommended to come to Karmere. It ended up being our favorite stop that day. They are known for the sparkling whites. However, everything we tasted was amazing. The prices were very reasonable. The outside garden area is a beautiful place to enjoy their delicious wines. Just make sure you are in a car, they don't allow limos or buses.
If you only have time for one tasting, this is the place to go. The setting is just beautiful. Has nothing to envy Napa or Tuscany. Plenty of wines to taste. Worth the visit.
Gorgeous setting and grounds. You can bring a picnic lunch and relax outdoors with one of their fantastic Zinfandel wines. Naughty Bawdy is a great value and yummy to drink! Very nice staff.
From the first day we visited Karmere Winery, tasting room manager Haley, has made us feel special. She always says we are family, and that is exactly how she, and the staff treat us. Her warmth and generosity are second to none! This a family owned and operated vineyards and winery, and the feeling of family caring really comes through. The excellent wines actually display family right on the names of the wines. The Amador wine country is a special place to visit and taste wines, but at Karmere, you will feel like your not just a customer, your family!
I love this place. The wines are always good and the choices of types of the same varietal are interesting. Try the Rachel Syrah. Check out the futures!
Beautiful tasting room, but the wine is nothing magical. With so many wonderful vineyards in Amador, it is easy to avoid any of the marginal ones.
Barrel tasting plus traditional wine tasting. Wonderful sparkling almond wine. Beautiful grounds. Lots of places to set and enjoy the view. Would be pretty setting for a wedding.
Excent wines in a nice environment. A nice selection of wines from with to red ewvery thing was excellent.
We attended a wedding here last weekend and were very impressed with the location. It is quite beautiful. The grassy area with seats for the guests, and the wedding party area were just perfect. The ceremony was in the late afternoon so we had the treat of a beautiful sunset as the ceremony was ending. The meal and dancing were on the terrace, which has trellises and lights over it. So it was quite lovely.
The staff is friendly and the owners are usually alway there pouring. We have bought futures here for the last 3 years and for the price it is without a doubt several of the best wines in our cellar. The Zins and Cabs are outstanding. We also buy several cases of Champaigne while here, since for the price the quality can't be bear
