Nestled in the rugged Sierra foothills in Gold Country, you'll find this gem. Amador Foothill Winery offers some really great zinfandels; but the thing that sets this venue apart is the ownership. Winemaker Tom Jones and his staff are so welcoming, you're bound to leave with a happy glow in addition to a couple of very good bottles! If you're in Amador County, do yourself a favor and stop here. You'll be glad you did!
Just go up and taste the wine! We've been hitting this winery once a year for the past 15 years or so. These guys have some amazing wines. Every year a different wine attracts my attention. Generally, their Clockspring Zin is my favorite, but it all depends on the year. We've never left this wine tasting room disappointed. The staff is great and they often have the wine maker around pouring as well. So if you are up in Amador County don't miss this winery.
I enjoyed the wines here nothing over the top, but some very good ZIn's along with some interesting aglianico's. Friendly owners who were by far the most pleasant and welcoming that we met on our trip.
I've been buying the Zinfandel from this winery for many years and have a nice collection now. Their Zins never disappoint. I saw the other reviews but I don't go for the buildings or the grounds, just the wines. Always worth the trip.
when we pulled up in our limo, 8 of us, the owner /grower met us at the car. he took us around to talk to us about the grapes and the specail way they were planted. told us some history about he and his wife and how they became a vineyard. he was so sweet! then he took us inside to taste wine! they had very nice wines at a reasonable price (no tasting fee). i would definatley like to go back here!
We had a limo appointment with a group of 8. When we arrived, the wine makers husband, a very nice man, took us directly over to the vines and explained the varietal they had planted from France and why it was planted in the way it was, educational. Then he gave us a little tour of the facility and off to taste. Very good wines, we bought several whites and reds. A must in the valley.
This was our first time at this gem of a winery. We've been to Deaver many times and it's right across the street, but we never knew it was there! The wine was great and we chatted with the owners for ages.
A host at another winery recommended we taste here and it was a shrewd recommendation. You get a good conversation, apt descriptions, and good value wines. We'll always come here when we visit Amador county.
This is a very good winery, that has a couple great ZIn's.
Amador Counties best kept secret.
Made my second trip here in the last 3 years. Unfortunately nothing had improved. The wines are inexpensive and taste the same. Tasting room was full so perhaps some people like their watered down style but I certainly won't be back.
