We visited on a cold day in December 2014. Contrary to other info I could find on-line, they had recently opened an indoor tasting area in a large metal barn type building (see photos). It was cozy inside with a small tasting counter, several sofas and tables with chairs. They have a nice selection of wines (mostly reds) and their pours were generous. They applied a tasting fee to one of the bottles we purchased. All of the wines we tried were good. There is a nice outdoor patio and tasting area in the warmer months, plenty of those photos you can find on-line. I'm including some, but mostly the new inside area (which included local artists pieces on sale, which is nice to see). There is plenty of parking and it is easy to find off the main road. The bathroom is a port-a-potty, but it looked very clean.I'd recommend this winery during a Ramona tasting. We had a great day starting at La Finquita, then Turtle Rock Ridge (next door), followed by Vineyard Grant James and ending at Milagro Farms just down the road. We ended in Julian for dinner and stayed the night. A nice Saturday get-away for a San Diego couple who typically does Temecula. We will be back to Ramona and will come back to Vineyard Grant James.
If you only have time to visit one winery on a trip to Ramona, make sure this is the one you visit. The setting is phenomenal - outdoor seating in the shade. Very comfortable chairs with an amazing view of the surrounding countryside. Two things make this place special: the hospitality and the wines themselves. The hospitality is first rate, and you can taste the quality of the wine in each sip. Very, very, very well done.
This winery is a gem. From the beautiful setting, to the lovely facility, to the flavorful wine, and the genuine caring hospitality, this place is wonderful. You can sit on the comfortable patio sampling the wines for as long as you want. Pretzels, bread with balsalmic vinegar and fresh olive oil, and bottled water are served. They are dog-friendly if your pooch is well-behaved. Thank you for a great visit!
Last weekend a large group of friends and out of town guests decided to visit a few of Ramona's local wineries. Our first stop was Vineyard Grant James and it became our last stop! We enjoyed the wine, views and hospitally of the wine maker so much, that before we knew it our picnic was fisnished and the sun was setting! Don't miss out one one of the gems of the Valley of the Sun!
If you seek an unforgettable day away from usual stuff in life, you will love the experience at the Vineyard Grant James! What they have done in just a few short years is to create an ambience, hospitality, exquisite food experience and unique wines that are unforgettable! Just this past Valentine's Day evening, I had the wonderful experience to partake in one of their delicious wine-food pairings on their outdoor patio under the stars (that we can't see in San Diego). And, the hospitality of Susanne and Jacques is unsurpassed! You've got to go! What's stopping you...a beautiful drive in less than an hour!
