RISR just officially opened a couple months ago. And for those of you who used to go to Magnum Range (like me), you will really love and prefer this range. The owner (Tom Resse) used to be one of the "Range Officers" at Magnum. While there, he learned what shooting enthusiasts want and, more importantly, what they don't want. He has made RISR the best that all of his experience can provide and it delivers in spades.First of all, there are 3 gun lines and one archery line. All of them has a professional Range Officer on duty anytime anyone is shooting. When you first go there they require you to demonstrate safe proficiency in handling your gun(s). But to make it easy, they ask you what you will be shooting and then show you what they want you to show them. Bottom line, it is all about safety. They want to see unloaded guns whenever they are not in use with an empty chamber showing. They also want to make sure that at all times the guns are pointed down range. Very simple but it kind of gives you a level of comfort that the people in the booths around you are just not going bang bang willy nilly. You only have to demonstrate your gun safety once. For all subsequent visits you are good to go. While some may object, I feel it a great security that they take a picture of your Driver's License to confirm your identification. So on later visits you are done. I sincerely appreciate this. After all, you are shooting lethal weapons. On the other hand, if you don't want them to know who you are ... don't go there ... and I don't want you shooting next to me either. The firing lines are VERY clean and WELL air conditioned. So along with the hearing protection you must wear before entering, it is a very comfortable place to practice. Families are welcome and I go there with my son, daughter, and her husband as often as I can. This really is a family sport and fun place to go. I have seen groups on birthday parties as well as bachelor parties. I heard a rumor that a few bachorette parties have taken place there but haven't seen it myself. I don't think picture targets of future mother-in-laws are allowed though ...... !Bring your own gun(s), ammo, and targets to save a few dollars. But this range is especially friendly those new to the sport as you can rent just about any type of gun you want, buy ammo and targets, and even get the ear protection. So if you are looking at buying a gun go there to test shoot it before you invest lots of your hard-earned money getting a gun that you might not enjoy.Take your camera too. I take my HD mini-cam much of the time. Then I take JPG screen shots of the exact moment when the gun flashes. SO COOL. Put one of those pix on your Facebook page and you will really get respect! I'll attach one of me and another of Tom Reese. You see, in addition to Tom being the owner, he is also passionate about the sport and wants you to enjoy it as much as him.Bottom line, a clean, fun, safe, family-friendly range, competitively priced that maximize your shooting experience. You even meet some really nice folks, like you, that just want an enjoyable shooting experience. And I ALWAYS leave that place feeling energized and happy!
