We added this venue to our December Central Coast tour, simply because it was listed as "dog-friendly". Was it ever! I love people from Oz, and these were no different. They seem to specialize in dessert wines, which is a great change-up from the sometime rough Pinot noirs that predominate this area. Winston loved it (Jack, not so much).
We visited Kalyra just because of Sideways Movie. We had the dessert wine tasting and the wine is definitelly not good. The place is nice although, if you are not a wine expert you will enjoy the visit like we did!
Start your Sideways Tour at Kalyra, where the movie was filmed. Fun atmosphere and staff. Beautiful view of vineyards.
This was the first winery we visited in this area. Each tasting was wonderful. None of the wines were heavy, mild pleasant flavors. Liked the so much that we joined the wine club.
This was one of the stops from the movie Sideways 2004!Delicious wine tasting very friendly staff and just down the road from Sunstone Vineyards! Pinot Noir Fans! Stop here!
It was fun seeing where Miles and Jack met Stephanie in the movie "Sideways". Enjoyed tasting the wines (except the Cab Franc, as I've never come to expect greatness from a cab franc and theirs is no different). However, I did like the Muscat. The place is worth a visit if your in the area.
This was a great winery. The guy that helped us (can't remember what they're called) was extremely knowledgable and helpful. His recommendations were spot on! I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Supercool winery, it has a very peculiar hype. Their dessert wines are fabulous, and we got the chance to buy a perfect-awesome-wonderful magnum bottle of a 1999 Pinot de Noir sparkling wine they had just disgorged (they made only 40 bottles). In addition to wines they also have gourmet chocolates and some other things. It's a pity that the person leading our taste was busy with some other people, so we didn't have a chance to talk much, but it's definitely worth the visit.
Went wine tasting and sat out on the patio (had my dog with me). It was extremely hot this day so I wish they had 'misters'. Server was nice. They had a water bowl for my dog on the patio. If it was not so hot, it would have been very pleasant. Worth a visit
This was our second stop on a recent wine tasting trip. Very nice, large patio that's dog friendly. Beautiful views and helpful staff.
If you like a sweet wine every once in a while, Kalyra has a great selection. My fiance and I have yet to try one we didn't like so it was an easy decision to join the Dessert Only wine club.
This was our 2nd visit to this winery having visited in 2011.Very enjoyable-"our winetender" was very informative about each wine and recommended the type of meals that would go well with each wine. We were so impressed we decided to join their wine club!Kalyra was one of the locations featured in Sideways the movie.Highly recommend a tasting here for $10 or $15.
If you're visiting Santa Ynez wineries (vs. hopping around tasting rooms in Solvang) this property is a must see. Kalyra offers a large variety of wines - everyone in your party is bound to find something. Their wine club is reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly. My favorite part about this vineyard is the large front porch at the tasting room - you have a choice of a bar inside or tables outside (complete with a lazy basset hound that comes around to get petted and goes back to sleep). The front porch gives you an amazing view of classic wine country. Other visitors brought lunches with them to eat on the patio with their tastings. Very laid back, easy going vibe. Nothing pretentious, but you still get the quality wine and great experience.
This was my favorite of the 4 winery locations we stopped at with the Grapeline shuttle. we asked for it specifically, due to our love of dessert and sweeter white wines. very friendly, beautiful setting, and they love dogs, which is a huge plus in my book!
My wife is a fan of port and dessert wines, of which you may get one in a regular tasting. This place had a dessert and port tasting that was right up her alley.
