rancho olivos

Stopped here with Dee Tours. We were able to try their flavors of oils with fresh bread. To die for. We loved the rosemary and the garlic oils. We wanted to buy every kind but were afraid to fly across the country with them. They do have a set of 3 ounce oil and vinegar that can get through airport security. Only bad thing, is that it's already almost gone.

I stopped in here 5 years ago because I had business in the area, and within a few weeks had replaced butter/spreads with Rancho Olivos products. Since then, I've been tasting at producers throughout California and in southern France, and tried many other products, yet Rancho Olivos olive oils and balsamic remain competitive with the best of them. The straight Arbequina is probably the best all-around, anytime product, while the Italian is often the best for sautee and certain salads, though it's also magical for dipping when mixed with sea salt! The garlic, lemon and other blended oils each have magical applications, and the balsamic, which they blend themselves from particular balsamics they import from Italy, remains the best I've ever tried. And yet this is all in a little stand on a ranch and olive grove by the side of the road, and the owners/creators are usually the ones serving you. It's one of those special finds that you dream of stumbling upon when you leave the asphalt jungle for the open spaces!

Last saturday - I had a wonderful Olive Oil Tasting Experience at Rancho Olivos - not only was Shannon and John very gracious and they were very informative and the Olive Oils were E#xcellent - I ended up buying a tremendous amount of olive oil - Alex Glendinning

Truly a wonderful experience! The olive oils were amazing (unforgettable actually!) and the setting was beautiful with the actual olive trees and beautiful horses all around. The owner was a delight. I am not much of a chef, and certainly no olive oil expert, but she explained how each oil was made and gave me several ideas for using each of them. She even gave me a muffin recipe that I can't wait to try! The official greeters (dogs!) made me feel so special and welcome. I took home several bottles and I smile with the great memories (and the great taste!) each time I use one!

I'm quite surprised by the comments about the lack of information about olive oil at Rancho Olivos. I go there often and have found the owners/proprietors to be very informative. In fact, they seem to love it when people ask questions. I think it's important to remember that it's a farm stand.....not a class. When I go to a tasting room, they pour wine and discuss the grapes and vineyards....but if I want to learn how the wine is actually made, I have to arrange for a tour/class. But I agree with one thing the man said. It's terrific olive oil, and now they've added two new flavors. I'm heading up there soon to try it!

As olive growers, we are always happy to answer any questions about our oil or the process. We are very sorry that Mr. Danilo did not feel that we responded to his questions about the process of making olive oil from olives. Although we do not process the olives on the property, we are more than happy to explain how it works to anyone who inquires. We also answer a lot of questions from our customers, with regard to the farming of our olives. As our farm stand sits amongst our Arbequina olive trees, we feel it is far different from a retail space. We have had many Brazilian visitors this past year who enjoyed their visit, and we invite Mr. Danilo to visit us again.

Who knew olive oil could be so delicious? A must stop when wine tasting in the area! The owners of the olive farm are very knowledgeable and the experience is as eye opening as it is yummy. You get to taste four distinctive oils...each one is better than the next. You can also see horses there! I got home and started cooking with this amazing oil. I was thrilled with the taste. This is a game changer.
