This small theater is fantastic! We've seen many productions and have never been disappointed. I can't even say which was my favorite. The fact that they get equity actors from NYC is great. And the local talent is very good. I'm seeing Mary Poppins tomorrow.
We have been to both the theater in Columbia and Sonora and enjoy them both. We have a vacation home in the area and try to attend a play whenever we happen to be in the area. The most recent one we saw was the "Putnam County Spelling Bee" in Sonora, and it was very entertaining. The actors are always very good, the props/decorations are very professional.
We're so glad you decided to act on your whim! Thanks for visiting and we hope to see you again soon!
I have seen shows at the Sierra Repertory on and off for several years. I have never been disappointed with what they have presented, either at the East Sonora or Fallon House location. The caliber of actors is one of those things you have to explain like, 'you have to see it to believe it'. They have a high caliber of local actors and they also bring other actors in from New York, LA and all over. You really get a true theater experience here. Be sure to get tickets plenty ahead of time if you want to go on a specific date, they sell out very quickly. Definitely worth a trip to the Sierra Foothills for this class act.
The level of energy and talent that this group of entertainers has is incredible. There is nothing like live theater. We saw them perform Mark Twain's a Murder, a Mystery, and a Marriage at their historic Fallon House Theatre in Columbia. It was fantastic in every way! We're looking forward to attending more of their shows in the future. I'd definitely recommend attending one of their productions!
On a whim, we decided to travel to Sonora from Roseville, CA. Looking for evening entertainment, we took in the play "All My Sons" at the Sierra Repertory Theatre. When you first arrive, all you see is a shed with a low roof. I wasn't sure what we had gotten ourselves into. You come to find out the theater is sunk into the ground. Inside was a very pleasing and comfortable theater space with plenty of leg room. We marveled at the photos of prior productions lining the walls, especially at the masterful set designs. Inside, the set for the show we came to see didn't disappoint. I am a stage actor myself, but this set was impressive, looking like a solidly built house. The show was well staged, with some fine performers. Don't overlook this opportunity for quality nighttime entertainment. This show was finer than many I have seen in many urban entertainment centers.
I am getting chills just writing this. We have never been disappointed by a play at Sierra Rep, but "All My Sons" defies expletives: awesome, stunning, superb, excellent, overwhelming . . .none of these words are sufficient. The acting was AMAZING and the set design was perfectly illustrated the time period and the storyline. Only a week left - get your tickets now!
What a find for a community theater! We saw "All My Sons" and the acting, set design and costumes were excellent. Small, so all seats are good. Get there early: they have wine tasting before the show!
Sierra Repertory seems to always have great plays. They have two theaters, one in Mona Rd in East Senora and the Fallon Theater in Columbia. I just got back from watching the play" All My Sons", great acting as always. Both theaters are within an hour and half from Modesto, CA. The plays are well worth the trip to see any of the plays Sierra Rep puts on. In my opinion they are just about as good as any play you might see in San Francisco. The cost of the play is only around $30.00 so how can you lose. If you go to any of the plays on opening night you will have a chance to meet the cast at one of the restaurants in the area after the play. It's great fun! They do serve wine or coffee and soft drinks before the play and at intermission.
Tuolumne County is a great place to see plays. Sierra Repertory Theatre always has well-known plays in its repertoire plus others that you will enjoy. Seeing a live play done with expertise is worth the time and money.
Spent a delightful Sunday at the Fallon Theater in Columbia Ca. Sierra Rep. Did it again, I have done theater for along time and I was very impressed with "The Sound of Music" the opening was a feast for the eyes, I would go again for that alone. Great cast, the kids were very good, and Maria was a wee bit more feisty than any other Marias and I liked her a lot!
Thank you for your support! Please help fill seats and spread the word. See you at the theatre!- Harmony WheelerSRT Marketing Directorhwheeler@sierrarep.org
This is a very small theater but you can see everything very well and be close to the stage. They bring in great performers from all over the country and put on top notch shows.
I've been to only two performances, but I was really impressed with the sets, the acting and the overall theater experience. If you have the time, please take in a performance. Check with the ticket office for restaurants that accommodate diners with the need to make a curtain call.
Performances at this theater are the best. Love the fact it is small and intimate with the best actors ever! I have been to many, many performances over the past 25 years and all were great! Watching the performance of Les Miserables was outstanding. All actors were great and I am looking forward to seeing Church Basement Ladies! This theater offers so much without Bay Area prices and traffic to get there. It is a wonderful place to take your family and friends.
