Poetic Cellars was one stop on our wine tasting weekend. It is a newer facility, very open and friendly, however, the wines didn't really stand out for us. Still worth stopping in if you are in the area. There were tables outside where we ate the lunch we brought along before tasting.
It is worth the drive into the Santa Cruz Mountains along the narrow and winding roads to get to Poetic Cellars. The tasting room is in the same building as the barrel storage but it is very brightly lit and it is a very nice experience. The wine is very good, whites and reds, and the owner or or son have been doing the pouring during my visits. They are very pleasant to speak with, knowledgeable and friendly. There are tables inside as well as outside. And the winery is pet friendly. It's a really fun and relaxing place to taste some very good wine.
This gem of a winery is hidden in the Santa Cruz Mts. The drive to get there is worthy of the trip. Great redwoods and sharp curves in the road add to the fun of the trip. Once you make your way to this tasting room the fun continues. the tasting room is in the barrel room and may not be pretty but is authentic. There is a small fee for tasting but the wine is so good it is worth the fee. The winery had all reds to taste the day I was there. All of the wines a bit pricey but that is common with small wineries. All were great. The wine maker is a woman who was pouring the day we tasted. She is funny and friendly and a wealth of information about wine making and the area in general. There are several wineries in the area and you can make a nice day out of it if you visit a couple and take a pic nic with you. There is nothing close to this winery to purchase any food from.
