Travelling between LA & Las Vegas make a quick detour off the Freeway at Victorville and pay a visit here. The Museum is well worth a break in your journey, it is a fabulous place & it's free! Amazing exibits from historic Route 66, I won't spoil it for you by listing what you can see you'll need to find out for yourself. Ideal for families, kids love it.
If you are a Route 66 enthusiast then this is probably a place to visit. I am not and just wanted to know a bit more about it and the history. So I made Victorville a deliberate stop on my trip. Unfortunately the museum was closed that day and I missed it. I did not see any reason to spend another day in that area so I moved on. Check the days and times before you plan your visit.
The museum has a lot of local stuff packed in. Some is from Route 66, some Rail Road and some fun old desert stuff. We spent about 1 hour and enjoyed the visit. The staff were great and very helpful and gave us great information on the part of Route 66 we were going on the next day between Victorville and Barstow. They have a very nice shop for Route 66 stuff at pretty good prices. If you are interested in old Route 66 this is a must stop museum in an old building right on the old Route on the east end of town.
Visited the museum and it just brought me back in time. Wonderful staff just full of great information. Museum is free but donations can be made and I did. Took picture sitting in an old Volkswagon "Hippy Van". Very small museum and you can do it quickly or take more time when something of great interest comes up. I will go back if in Victorville.
Every guest who stays with us is treated to a stop at the California Route 66 Museum. We have many visitors from New York City, which is chock full of grand museums, and our visitors REALLY like this museum. The California Route 66 Museum is small but mighty; well worth the visit.
Words can not describe the experience at this location. It is a MUST SEE on the way to or from LA or Las Vegas... I was suppose to be in and out in half an hour but ended up spending above 2 and half hour. The entire tour of the place is free. There are local volunteer to take you around and describe the entire history one piece at a time. Lot of the items were acquired through donations. The place is divided into 3 areas and a gift shop but the highlights were an old refurbish jukebox, old diner booth area, a classic vehicle and front of scooby doo van. Make sure to take a picture in the old school toilet! Please donate something as the entire place runs on donation and the staff taking everyone around is a volunteer. The gift shop is quite fascinating and interesting, so make sure you check it out. They also have a nice board where people have been leaving their countries currency, so if you country's coin or note is not their make sure to stick it up.I highly recommend a stop over to this awesome place!
Everything. it is a walk back in time. Easy access and contributions accepted. Friendly and helpful docents.
This museum is a fun place to visit if you're a fan of Route 66 or just history in general. It has a nice selection of mother road history and also some things of local historical significance, and is not so huge that it's going to take a ton of time if you have to keep moving. But if you *want* to spend a lot of time here there is some depth to keep your interest. The friendly staff was happy to answer questions and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
Visiting California from Scotland .....Stumbled across this wee museum by a accident thanks to sat nav mis routing. And so glad that it did !! Small but full of interesting exhibits. Most importantly the staff and volunteers ooze enthusiasm. My visit was very brief due to tight schedule but will definitely be be back and can thoroughly recommend it.
This is another one of the "Must See". When in Victorville, you can't miss this museum, it is probably one of the largest buildings in Victorville. Lots of things to see there, give yourself time to wander around, take your time and enjoy. Lots of history of the mother road to be seen there.
While driving from Anaheim to Vegas, we entered to the US Route 66 in Victorville and visited the museum. We were welcomed by a very friendly man .The place is a must see. The museum was full of information and gadgets almost all outstanding. The gift shop had great T-shirts, gifts and a good array of books related to the 66 road. Its a simple and free place that definetively worth the visit
Any one doing route 66 must stop here. The staff are very friendly, have excellent local knowledge of the Route 66 and give good advice. The museum is a fun place to go.
This is a nice break while driving through the high desert. You can't beat the price - it's FREE. Staffed by friendly volunteers (mostly retirees) who are more than happy to explain this stretch of old Route 66 to any person that walks in. The exhibits are a lot of donated memorabilia and range from the very interesting to the mundane, all a part of the Route 66 legacy. Do visit the informal gift shop in the front corner of the building and help support this historical window on America's transportation past.
While exploring the US Route 66 I visited the museum in Victorville. If your interested in route 66 it's a must see. The staff was very friendly. The museum was outstanding. The gift shop had great gifts and ample information to guide you on your journey. Many handouts are available at no charge.
We were really pleased to find the Route 66 Museum in Victorville. Absolutely loads and loads of memorabilia related to Route 66. We were shown around by an absolute angel of a man, thank you Lou, who had a fantastic knowledge of all the exhibits, he even let me choose some tracks on the jukebox, then told me it was worth a million dollars !! Absolutely no rush to walk around, you just go at your own pace. The shop was very good especially T shirts which I later saw in LA for 10$ more. The museum is staffed by volunteers who really do care about what they are doing. No admission charge but donations are welcome. Spend some time here and also spend some money to keep this museum going.
