My husband was raised on a farm so therefore some of the equipment brought back many memories. I also saw some that I did not know what they were used for or even existed. Well worth the stop.
A great collection of historic farm machinery with good descriptions, pictures and videos. Friendly staff. Nice place.
This was recommended to us a few years ago and we went - my mother and aunt went as well. They had grown up on a farm and were fascinated by everything they saw. I have never been very interested in farming - but I, too, found myself marveling at the development of farm implements and seeing examples of how people have lived on farms. We now go at least once a month with our 3 year old grandson. We all love our time there. The docents are wonderful and it is enjoyable for all ages. I recommend going early in the day during hot weather. They are starting to have special events - so it is worth signing up for their newsletter.
This was a very nice place to visit in Woodland. The staff was nice and there were a lot of cool things to see. Woodland is a small town, but they seem to have cool little places like this. Glad I came.
This is a must see. You'll marvel at the assortment of tractors powered by steam, kerosine and gasoline. You'll be surprised at how huge some of these machines are. Well worth a visit.
The Heidrick brothers are a classic American success story and they could well serve as models for young Americans. This museum is perhaps the 'capstone' of their legacy. I took my grandson when he was only about 8 and he loved it so much we went back several more times. If you have only a small interest in agriculture you will surely find much of interest here. Anyone who likes to eat or who appreciates living in 'the land of plenty' should visit and learn about the tremendous work that went into making what we have today. It is an incredible story and this museum tells that story very well.
The Heidrick museum is a wonderful place to take kids of all ages. You can take a guided tour or stroll along at your own pace. You will be amazed at the machinery and how our food was planted and harvested many years ago. You can see everything from horse drawn equipment, steam powered and gas/diesel powered. Besides farm equipment you can take a step back in time and see how much of that produced was moved to market with the use of old trucks. If you are interested in farming, this is a great place to stop for the entire family.
This is a wonderful collection of antique farm equipment and trucks. I have visited it many times and have enjoyed seeing these artifacts of our agricultural heritage. I especially enjoyed taking my 90+ father and his brother to see the museum. For them it was like being in a candy store. The museum is certainly worth the time for the trip back into history.
This museum is fairly near the Sacramento Airport and extremely easy to get to. It is huge, and you get to see the Hays Truck Museum for the same entry fee. The day we went it was hot and there was no air conditioning that day, but they let us take water bottles inside. Fans inside kept us cool enough to go through the whole place in about 90 minutes. If it were not getting hot, we easily could have stayed longer. This was a fascinating place because it showed the progression of farm machinery development from horse and plowshare to the late 20th century, and the development of commercial trucks. And most of it appeared to come from local California farmers. I am not a mechanic by any means, but I found it truly awe inspiring to see what people developed through necessity and desire. There are several one-of-a-kind machines there that would make it worth the visit. It's an easy level walk, and an over-looked gem. They sell beverages and some snacks, but it is near eateries.
Do not drive by and not stop to take a look at this excellent museum. They have a wonderful selection of farm machinery, cars, trucks or anything else with wheels. Many panoramas have been created to show what something represented during a certain era in our history. For example, the war vehicle display is wonderful as is the logging vehicle exhibit. My favorite is the truck someone crafted out of wood and it is a full sized pick up. Such craftsmanship is here for all to enjoy.
Growing up on a farm, this AG Center is a cool look at farming life and equipment changes over the years. It's not your usual "museum".
Just visited the Heidrick AG center in Woodland, and found it to be an interesting place! I have driven by it many, many times, but never thought to stop until my brother, who is into mechanics, invited me to go with him. The museum is huge, with one side featuring old tractors, and the other side trucks of all sorts. I am not really all that in to tractors or trucks, but this place was beautifully laid out, with lots of information about each exhibit that made it worth the visit. We were lucky enough to be taken around by a volunteer who told us great stories about the trucks and tractors. I recommend this museum both to people who are mechanically-minded, and those who just like learning new things about old stuff. Staff is very friendly and there is a nice gift shop.
Machinery the way grandpa used to do it. Scenes from the '40's, like a gas station, a kitchen. Various old vehicles as well as farm equipment. A "guess what this is" display makes it fun.
The Heidrick Truck and Tractor Museum is a gem right in the heart of Woodland, only 15min from downtown Sacramento. They have 130,000 square feet of beautifully restored trucks and tractors, just like the ones your pappy used to own! I am partial to the truck side, but the farm equipment is truly a testament to modern engineering. The entrance ranges from free to $8 and it goes to a good cause, so don't begrudge them! Kids will love it, but remember to go in the morning b/c it only has fans, so a summer afternoon can be sweltering.
This is a truly special collection of historic and vintage farming equipment from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. Some very fascinating pieces with very knowledgable tour guides. The Hay Antique Truck Museum next door made this a double dose of history!! Wellworth the time and $.
