The location is great! We had never been to the horse races before-but will go again. The track is beautiful and the horses are amazing as was the trumpet player.
Great to go to a respected and historical racetrack and watch the ponies. On dollar day Sundays you can have an economical and entertaining time with a hot dog, beer and some good luck picking winners.
I'd never seen horse racing and never been to a course before. We went as part of a photo group, specifically to make images. It was fun, and the facilities seem very good. Access for photography is limited and if that is your goal I would check out the regular photo days the GG host.
this was a group event about 40+ people. the name of the org. will remain blank! but i was one of the members of the group event. name of the club? the turf club at golden gate fields1. service was very bad(stinky)2. food was cold, quality extremely poor.3. ambiance very good, great views3. drinks very poor.this was booked way in advance, so there was no excuse for the bad day at the track. let be very clear, this is not recommend to company event or group for any special setting what so ever.the best thing i can say about this place is you like to play the horses, make bets, then great other than that you wasting time and money. period.. you have been warn! ed
Golden Gate Fields is a lovely track not too far off San Francisco and easily accessible by car with a car park right in front of the entrance. Parking and tickets to get in are reasonable. The track itself is huge, with many hidden rooms and halls hidden inside the massive grandstand. Viewing is great from the rails or anywhere from the stand. You can be really close to the horses, and I particularly liked the parade ring which gives excellent access to horses and jockeys, and which is right behind the finish line. Food and drink is okay. Prices are decent. A big slice of Pizza for $4 is pretty alright. What the track is obviously lacking on such a random race that I've been there: Atmosphere. This seems to be a common problem in US racing. Attendance wasn't great and people get lost in this wide track. You barely hear anyone once a race is on. That is a huge difference to racing in Europe, particularly UK and Ireland. Nonetheless I enjoyed my visit.
I’m not a gambler and I know nothing about horse racing, but I grew up on horseback and love being around these majestic creatures. A family group of eight spent a fantastic afternoon at Golden Gate Fields post Thanksgiving in the Turf Club. The offerings for lunch were varied and satisfying, the service was good, and the views spectacular. We walked down to the paddocks to see the jockeys and horses up close and were able to enjoy the sound of stampeding to the finish line. Golden Gate Fields is located on the San Francisco Bay. It’s quite a beautiful site to see the greens of the track with side views of the sea. We all cheered for our favorite horses and had a grand time.
Don't go racing in USA if you want atmosphere and an exciting experience. This track has a huge aging stand and despite staging a $50,000 stakes race, there was nobody there. I would be surprised if there was 1,000 people attending. I had lunch in the Turf Club, it costs extra to get in, and was served absolute rubbish. My waiter actually took it off me whilst I was eating my a la carte Southern Chicken, apologised and offered me a free go at the buffet. That was no better! This was my 4th US track visit and was the worst. American racing, pull your socks up.
Golden Gate Fields does a special event twice a year for a special group of ladies. This is the place to go to for fantastic food, betting on horses, and just downright fun with other ladies. Michael does a spectacular job of spoiling us all. We could have as many as 500 women betting on horses and making new friends. Thanks, Michael and GGF for making us feel so loved!
Fun for the whole family!Came here on a Saturday in the beginning of September to celebrate my birthday with a few of my close friends and family. Our group turned out to be a party of 40+ adults and kids. My husband spoke with a rep from Golden Gate Fields and reserved a section of boxed seats. Not at all necessary because they had so many seats available, everywhere. I was pretty surprised how empty the place was, probably because there are many different areas where you can watch horse racing and the facility is pretty huge.FYI it's cash only for your entrance fee, it's $8 per person for anyone over the age of 17. Anyone under 17 is free. The entrance fee includes a program. We paid an additional $3 to sit in the box seats. The facility is not at all fancy but pretty well kept for being such a large building, parts of it can definitely be updated but it's all in the fun of going to the horse races, almost as if you are stuck in the past. My only complaint is that the food is not the greatest, well the food from the concession stands. Or maybe it was just what I ordered. I went down to the bottom floor and ordered a carved turkey sandwich. The turkey was moist and they gave a lot of it but my sandwich consisted of turkey and bread. No lettuce, tomato, or anything else came with it. I did not get to try anything else but other people in my party ordered nachos, fried chicken, and bbq. It's good that they did have so many different things to choose from. The kids especially loved it because before every race you can view the horses getting ready. All the kids liked how close they can watch them. All in all, I would definitely come back to Golden Gate Fields. It was a great day out!Restrooms: They have separate restrooms for men and women on every floor. They have many stalls in each location. It was clean and stocked.
Exciting venue with easy parking, good food and great views of the Oakland hills and SF Bay/Golden Gate as well! Children under 17 free with paid adult admission. Chance to make a little money if your good/lucky! Check it out, you won't be sorry!
I guess I can check this off my list of things to try but I think I might try another track before writing it off for good. This place is kind of junky with odd characters and grumpy staff. Don't tell the guy behind the counter which horse you are betting on by name or he will yell at you. Give the horse's #, the dollar amount and to win, place or show. Get it right or be prepared for a scolding. Not too friendly to first timers. Even though it says no smoking everywhere, everyone smokes including the staff. Tacky
The wife and I prefer the grandstand's clubhouse area for lots of reasons. It is climate controlled for hot days rather than in the general admission grandstands. Maybe I am a bit too ostentatious, but I like being waited on for food and drink. Now if they only served up some 'sinners' for me I'd like it even more.
If you love horse racing, and even if you don't, this is a great place to have a meal, snack and watch world class horses race on grass or track at various lengths. The first race started at 12:45 and there were 10 other races up until 5:30. So you can be here all day or you can leave early. Its all up to you. The venue is easy to get to. Parking is easy, but I recommend the Valet. The turf club has a generous and not wallet breaking buffet on Sunday and you can eat/watch the races from the dinning area. Sunday is also dollar day. You can get a hot dog, soda and various other fare for a $1.00 So you won't break the bank having a meal/snack. For hard core betters, you can feed your addiction here and have no pain. For casual betters, this is a fun way to pick horses based on color, character, name or what have it. You can sit inside or watch outside as close to the action as you would like. We were here on a Sunday with the entire family, including 2 children age 8 and 4. We all had a blast, certain to come back. We won a little, lost a little but had a good time doing it.
Visiting relatives in the Bay Area we decided to check out Golden Gate Fields. Made reservations at the Turf Club. Parking off if Gilman Sreet costs $10 where you can self park or valet. Outside the views are nice. Turf Club on Saturdays and Sundays plus holidays costs $15. We went on a Sunday. Had food from the buffet and it was not a lot of selection. Plus it was tasteless and not worth the price. Dress code is all over the place. It is an older facility that needs updating. $1 days draws all types of people.
Clean attractive atmosphere for a track. Good value. Worth paying to park and use the Clubhouse. Have been there with groups and very comfortable
