Nice place to bring friends and enjoy the sunset view. Kids love climbing on the rocks but they can be slippery so be careful. One of my favorite places to watch multiple fireworks displays on the 4th of July... but get there early because it can get crowded, too.
A beautiful rock park, stairs cut into the side of rock. This is the best 3 bridge view in Berkeley.
If I were visiting East Bay---across the Bay from San Francisco---I'd make Indian Rock a must stop. The view is one of the best, and if you go round the corner you can watch tomorrow's superstar rock climbers in training. This is where Galen Rowell and many others first learned the feel of rock. Very low key, unpretentious area with a great view away from the hustle and bustle of the UC Berkeley campus area.
I liked the view, but you have to be carefull when you climb the rock. Once you are on top, you don't want to leave because there is so much to see.
Anytime of your day is perfect for this outing! I have taken the EZ stone walkway to the top of the rocks as well as the difficult jump to the steps; the difficult jump left me bruised and scratched up. I have seen dudes free-climb the rocks, and that is quite impressive.420 friendly place (edibles worked the best) anytime of the day... Leave your pets at home because not all of us enjoy your dog vibe; kinda changes the scene to a negative vibe.Believe me, this is a chill vibe except for July 4 when the rocks rock out! July 4th is cool if you like being surrounded by fun college kids. In summary, enjoy the vibe and watch the day go by; yesterday, I was one with the clouds; today, I was blowin' in the wind....
Just a short walk up the path from the corner of Solano and The Alameda. Climb the WPA steps to the top of this huge boulder and take in the views of San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, and everything in-between. Or try your rock-climbing skills on the back side. This is the best of several "big rock" parks in Berkeley.
An outcropping of rock and some honking big eucalyptus trees, surrounded by bosky Berkeley hills neighborhoods. Wonderful panoramic view of the Bay, the Marin headlands and Golden Gate, and the San Francisco skyline. A great spot for a picnic lunch.
climb the rock, see the bridge... stumbled on this little treasure while out for a walk. nice unexpected experience in residential area.
I'm sure this is not a unique review - this is by far the best view in Berkeley, and not a very difficult climb (there are several stairways chiseled right into the side of the rock!) Please, do yourselves a favor, and do not miss this sight. Even with some fog in the distance, you can still see the SF skyline. This is in addition to all the rooftops of Berkeley and Oakland too. Do not miss.
I can walk here from my house. Its always fun to see the ever-changing weather over the bay. Nice uphill walk from Solano Ave. after dinner. Kids and agile adults like to climb the rock.
Little bit of a hike but totally worth it, beautiful view of the bay! There were a few people picnicking on the rock, which I thought was a great idea out in the warm sun. I will be back!
For worship temple/church/mosque is the place. For sunset Indian rock is the place. Sit on the rock and watch the sun slipping behind the mountain. The sky bids goodbye with the colors we can't buy. Our eyes thank us for this vivid view. Couples exchange hearts. Your imagination grows endless like the sky. The hard rock is a soft bed for climbers there. It may be your first time getting tied to a rick with nothing
I really really love this place. its actually just a rock in a living area but you can see the whole bay from there. I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH.
Indian rock is a unique area of large boulders which is a traditional place for budding climbers to learn/hone their skills and for families and couples to sit in the spring and summer to watch the sunset. Small children should be under the watchful eyes of parents.
It's a big rock that you can quickly "rock climb" up or easily walk up the stone carved stairways to see one of the most fabulous views of the SF Bay Area. Easy to get to and easy to do.
