在国家公园北边的state park里,有硕大的红杉林,很多树15个人才能合抱。在入口的游客中心有15分钟宣传片,可以仔细了解这一处的细节和历史
For a very local visit, this park gets top marks for what it has, coastal redwoods and river environment. Really enjoyed the very undisturbed forest with the narrow dirt roads and minimal disturbance. But for the Redwoods, I was very disappointed to find fairly small trees in this grove, and even more disappointed to learn after that the grove of the Titans is here, but kept secret from the public. Better experience with the redwoods in parks to the south.
I came here on a Sunday, late afternoon. Only saw a couple other people. What a gorgeous, peaceful place. The trees are absolutely majestic! I am in awe of these giants! Beautiful silence. Delicious, fresh clean air. The trees. 100 different shades of green in all the ferns. One of my most favorite places in California.
I had been here as a child, but my wife never had. We drove down from Corvallis, OR and she was so happy when I told her we were going to the Redwoods. Fun, long curvy road to get here. Just dirt though and lots of pot holes, so be safe. Lots of good trails that allow you to walk amongst the largest living things in America. Caught ourselves many times just looking up and getting lost. This place is so awesome and really the first good place to get into the Redwoods heading into Cali. Just be mindful of the locals as we were almost ran off the road by one joyriding this windy dirt road.
Stout Grove, located in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, is a relatively small redwood grove but it features a dense concentration of large, old growth redwoods, free of an understory of smaller trees that would obscure the view of the giants, with ferns carpeting the ground. Considered by many to be the most picturesque redwood grove as a result, it is at its best on a sunny, late afternoon when the sun penetrates the canopy; the light rays angling in, creating a warm glow. The trail through the grove is a short easy loop that is virtually flat after the short spur from the parking area that drops 40 feet (12.2m) in elevation to the loop; total distance is only 0.6 mile (1.0k). The parking area for the grove is at the end of a short, paved spur from the unpaved Howland Hill Road. The 5.5 miles (8.9k) of Howland Hill Road within the boundaries of the state park is a narrow but good dirt road with excellent views of old growth redwood forest; I would recommend taking in these views by coming from the south near Crescent City which would put the spur to Stout Grove on the left about 5 miles (8.1k) after the road becomes unpaved. If your time is more limited or prefer to avoid as much dirt road driving as possible, approach from the north near Hiouchi in which case the spur to Stout Grove will be to your right about 0.5 mile (0.8k) after the road becomes unpaved.
these old growth redwoods are so beautiful. I live here and am still astounded by their beauty. there are many trails off the road to stout grove, all different levels of difficulty. the trail in stout grove is an easy one. the only reason I didn't give a five star rating is sometimes the road is pretty bad, lots of pot holes especially during the winter. the road is single lane quite a bit. I wouldn't take a motorhome on this road!this review made me pick a time when I visited. I visit all the time.
Great quick stop off howland rd! Only about a half mile (and flat) so it's good for older or out of shape people. I just stopped by for a quick peek after some other hikes. It's a good bang for your buck (time wise) little trail, as there are some impressive trees in the grove.
This grove feels ancient. The trees are amazing and it will humble your very existence. I've been on several trails in the Redwoods, and this is definitely one of my favorite. Young and old (relatively speaking) can enjoy the soft ground of this awesome, short loop. A must!!
There is one spot where you can use the restrooms. I'd advise that you pass it. They are stinky, dirty, and dark.
The old growth Redwood forest is awe inspiring. This is a must see in the Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. The trees are huge and majestic. The road there is narrow and rough in spots as it is unpaved but kept in very good shape.
After a walk on the soft trails of this grove, you will feel younger! Many of these trees are over 1000 years old! Very peaceful, quite spot to unwind and enjoy nature.
Magnificent display of some of Creation's most spectacular trees. Off the beaten path and worth the short drive.
This place is amazing! To walk among these giants is breathtaking. The trees here are so huge and majestic, it's like out of a movie. If you are close to Stout Grove, it's well worth the trip.
If you are in Del Norte County, please visit and walk through Stout Grove. North up Hwy 199 and turn off at the Stout Grove sign. We've lived in the county for over 50 years and we NEVER tire of walking through the Grove. The redwood trees, both standing and those resting on the forest floor, are spectacular. Several trails wind through the park and they are easy walking. The hill down from the parking area is a bit steep, but very short, and paved all the way. There are many wonderful trails to hike in our county, and this is definitely one of them. DON'T MISS IT!
It is such a great drive to get there and the grove is almost beautiful, you feel like you are in a magical place.
