The Granada Theatre is a 900 seat theater with quite good sight lines. For opera lovers, be aware that there is only one translation board, so sitting in the first 7-10 rows requires that you glance up to read the translations and, I suspect, some of the side seats would present difficult angles. We sat in the third row and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. The stage is not overly large. The performance itself was a delight. This is not the LA Opera, but it is not LA Opera prices or Los Angeles crowded, either. Santa Barbara Opera offers very good quality performances at a quite reasonable price. And, it's in Santa Barbara, which is always a delight to visit.
Located in Santa Barbara's historic theatre District, the Granada is architecturally beautiful. Have had the pleasure of attending operas there including "Falstaff" last November. Was there last night for the musical "Guys and Dolls." As always, a fantastic production. Looking forward to "Chicago" in April.
Wonderful venue. Great sound, comfortable seating. Whenever we get the schedules for Granada and Lobero we plan a weekend around seeing shows. We are impressed with the work and support that makes these places exceptional destinations. The only criticism I have is that they aren't very wheel chair friendly. I'm sure they meet codes, but I have seen people in chairs have difficulty.
This is an outstanding venue for live performances. The theater is very beautiful, has great sight lines, and the acoustics are superb. I recently saw comedian Anjelah Johnson and thoroughly enjoyed her performance.Of special interest is the annual New Year's Eve Pops concert as performed by the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra. In addition to having a great orchestra, they bring in a world class guest conductor and several world class soloists. Put it on your calendar for New Year's Eve.
This theater has been recently completely remodeled and is beautiful inside. It is meticulously clean and the seats are very comfortable. It is a great venue for live theater and music. The lobby, theater and bathrooms were all very neat and clean. The acoustics were very good and the sound was crisp and clean. We were in town for a couple days and saw the Nutcracker Ballet at Christmas time. Would recommend seeing a show here when is town.
Well worth going to, the historic theater is like no other. I remember it when it was a movie theater when I was growing up so it was really fun to be back there seeing it still being used.
The theatre is beautiful! Just as grand today as I imagine it was in it's heyday! We went there for the Christopher Cross concert, which was outstanding and very intimate in this setting. We were fortunate to have purchased tickets shortly after they became available and had great seats in the second row, center, but I don't think there is a bad seat in the house! The sound was great! The theatre is very clean and well maintained. Entry was simple without the huge crowds that are at many other venues. We will be back for more!I don't know if you can tour the theatre when it's not open, but if you can, it would be worth a visit!
We recently attended an opera at the Granada and haven’t stopped talking about it since! The theatre was beautiful and the production was first class. I highly recommend a visit to this venue.
A wonderful setting for classic performances, restored to its original glory a few years ago. Theater, symphony, opera and classic singers flourish in this setting.
Don't look down when you walk in. Look up and around. A magical venue to experience nearly any performance. Seen many a play, musical, comedy, and the best, exotic flamenco ever!
We were lucky enough to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy very unexpectedly on a recent trip to Santa Barbara. The performance was outstanding and the theatre is a real gem. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house.
The Granada Theater is a gorgeous, renovated old-school theater that lends itself best to high culture events such as symphony orchestra and ballet as well as large ensemble musical groups. The atmosphere of the theater, with it's maroon and gold accented decor, lends itself to a time when elegance was the norm, so do yourself a favor and dress up when you attend an event - you'll feel like you stepped back into a special time and place.
It is a great place for live stage performances! Go early so you can look around. It's really pretty.
What a beautiful building! I wish I lived here so I could go often. I recommend a visit! As about the history of the building while you're there!
Historic 600 seat theater, remodeled this summer. Nothing like it anywhere I have seen. All types of events. #1 SB spot to experience an event like it is being held in your own home
