If you like Egypt, visiting this museum is a must. Its replica of a Egyptian tomb is marvelous and its research library too. Plus, the gardens surrounding the museum also worth a walk
Our 6th grade class went to this museum as part of their unit on Egypt. The kids were truly blown away by all the treasures in this relatively small museum- 3500 year old rings, mummified kittens, a life size tomb, a scale model of the city.....wonderful, well explained, and thorough. What really made the trip special was out guide, Rebecca- she was able to hone in on the kids interests, explain the scope of the exhibit and bring it to life. Highly recommend a tour if you go!!
Putting aside the society which established it, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is one of the finest exhibits of Egyptian artifacts I've visited in the United States. Our family found the experience one of the high-lights of our trip to San Jose. Educationally, I can't imagine any school studying Egypt not using it as a wonderful resource.
The grounds of the Museum were beautiful and the exhibits were very informative. A very good value. Admission wasn't expensive and we spent almost 4 hours there. I would highly recommend.
This museum is truly amazing. Extremely educational and fun all. Make sure to see all of the exhibits, and take the tours.
You can get a great feel for Egyptian (and to a lesser extent other ancient near eastern) history and culture here. They've got a nice collection of artifacts, and quite a few casts of larger/important pieces from the British Museum and other important Egyptology collections. Their descriptions tell you a lot about the artifacts and their significance. I'd second the other comments that this is a hidden gem in San Jose. There are some downsides:- the museum is showing its age: the lights are out on some of the illuminated displays, making them impossible to read- some of the signage and displays were in very dark locations. I'd suggest you _bring a flashlight_ if you want to read everything. - there was very little guidance to the different gallerys and exhibits. It's small enough to just wander through and see what you see, but it would have been nice to have a little more direction. All that being said, it was well worth the modest admission price, and we could have even stayed longer. We didn't go the planetarium (that's included in the admission). The grounds out back were also pleasant for strolling.
My wife and I love to go to the Rosicrucian museum. It has many different items from the great era of Egypt. They are located in the Rose Garden area of San Jose and it's a great little gem we have. It's great to teach the young and old about some Egyptian history and to see some artifacts from this time period.
The entrance to the Rosicrucian Museum is striking, but all of the treasures inside are the attraction. They have spent time and money to create an experience that is not only interesting, but is visually exciting for kids as well. Inside there is a walk-through re-creation of a tomb that really adds to the realism and mystery of seeing the discovered mummies and sarcophagi on display. There are tons of other artifacts that are well displayed and usually informational cards that often give some background to what you are seeing. Given that San Jose usually has very temperate weather all year 'round, it's worth walking the gardens outside as well either before or after your museum visit.
The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is a jewel of a small museum with mummies, Egyptian artifacts, and reproductions of tombs. The outside grounds are also lovely with papyrus growing in water. It is a great place to spend a couple of hours--appropriate for both adults and kids.
I have lived in the bay area my whole life and didn't go to this museum until a couple years ago and I was really pleasantly surprised. They have so many artifacts to view that its a real cultural treasure here in San Jose. Highly recommend.
The artifacts, the old excavation photos, the Mummies and the general atmosphere combined with the walk-through Egyptian tomb made this a great experience.
We went to this museum on the recommendation of our hotel staff. This is an excellent display of ancient Egyptian artifacts with lots of information. Not to be missed is the underground tomb.
Who knew...a little bit of Egypt and mystery in San Jose. For nine dollars one can visit ancient Egypt with historic artifacts and exact reproductions including King Tuts tomb. Having been in Tuts tomb in Egypt I can attest it is a spot on reproduction. Adults and kids will enjoy two hours of Egypt along with the outside gardens.
This beautiful museum is full of art and so much history. The staff here is a very helpful and very kind and they have free parking and if you have a AAA card to get a dollar discount at entrance. There is a beautifully decorated garden behind the museum and the museum itself has about four different rooms. And from what I heard they're opening another exhibition. I would highly recommend this place for any Egypt or art lover.
This is such a fascinating museum. I can't count the times I've been here there's always so much to see I particularly love the Egyptian portion of the museum be wary during the school year because there are lots of classes that come through here with her teachers. I recently took my grandson here who was also fascinated with it. The outside area is also very beautiful take time to look around.
