What I really dislike about comedy clubs is the 2 drink minimum - for me it always feels like a giant rip off because I don't drink alcohol or soda so I pay $7 for a soda water. That on top of the entrance fee already makes me not so ready to laugh - BUT here there is no drink minimum! AND it's only $10 that's right folks $10!! Of course, they still make money at the bar but even their bar drinks are very reasonably priced. The venue is small so there are no bad seats and the lineup of comedians were very entertaining. Really an awesome choice for a fun night out without breaking the bank!
MI's Westside Comedy Theater is a small, intimate, cool venue accessed from an alley behind the 3rd Street Promenade and for $5 a ticket (with no drinks minimum) the comedy would have to have been pretty bad for this not to feel like a bargain. As it happens the comedy was hit and miss but this was by design as we went to the Neal Brennan and Friends show that is for top-grade comedians (we Brits didn't know any of them, though) to try out new material on an audience. (We were briefed beforehand that heckling was a no-no.)This meant there were notes and pauses and 'that didn't go down well' comments that you wouldn't usually get at a comedy show. It's for individuals to decide whether this would work for them but we didn't mind it one bit and actually embraced the process.A really, really enjoyable night out.
The Friday night Stand up Comedy Show is a must! Only $10 for national touring comedians and no drink minimums. You can't beat this intimate theater for Stand Up Comedy and Improv. Also if you purchase tickets to the 8PM show you're welcome to stay for the 10PM Mission Improvable show.
Good price good acts. I always try to make a trip to this club when I am in town. Great vibe! A must for any traveller
The Mission Improvable show was hilarious! Loved how quick the comedians are and how they "bounce" off of each other. It was clear that they loved doing it as much as we loved watching them.
We went on a Tuesday night and saw some improv groups do their thing and really enjoyed our time! You cannot beat this, especially considering there is no entrance fee!
Went on a Sunday night after dinner at RFD. Neal Brennan and friends try out some new comedy bits, work on their material, have a real collaborative vibe to them. Informal, but high-quality comedians. Cheap too!
Wow. What a great night. Love the rough locale. Show was fantastic. To locate it find it go through the back alley of the 3rd Street Promenade. The visit will be worth it.
Visiting the kids and heard this was a great place to go. Found sitters for the grandkids, and treated the kids to a nice night out - and we were thrilled! Hard to find, but when we asked for directions, people were very nice and helped us. The show was hysterical. We didn't feel rushed or compelled to buy more drinks, etc. Very laid back and concerned about the patrons. We all had a great night out!!
We were not sure it was going to be open as advertised 15 minutes before the show but checked back 10 minutes later and there was a line and tickets being sold. There is a bar with decent beer. There were two different shows but if you paid to get in the first show, the you were good for the second. There must have been 7 or 8 different comedians. There were some novices and some that were trying out some new routines but very enjoyable throughout. Highly recommend it.
Almost no improv in the SM area outside of this place. People there are very energetic and funny and not too-cool-for -school. Good place to take improv classes, too. If you are a tourist staying in SM, go here at night for some entertainment.
We enjoy visiting comedy clubs each time we travel. This is truly a hidden treasure. It is located in an alley in Santa Monica and the staff was humble and unpretentious. It was cheap, and we did not have a drink minimum. The comedians were hilarious. We highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area.
We were looking for something fun and different and we found it here. Bought tickets for the second show and could stay the rest of the night if we wanted. Bar menu limited but laughter is not.
If laughter is the best medicine, then this club fits the bill !! Tucked away on a back street, this is a real gem! This is really great improv, not to be missed!!!!!
Hidden on an alley parallel to 3rd Street - you'll find this Comedy theater --- it is literally a wooden garage that must have survived the urban shopping development on 3rd street. Small venue, not overly "Hollywood-ized" - but still find up and coming comics making their way to a screen near you! Funny night, totally unexpected find -- nice to do something different on date night - than a dinner/movie!
