Glimpse the log cabin estates of the 1920's super rich on Lake Tahoe. Volunteers and the National Forest Service operate and maintain the three old estates. We stopped for a brief visit and a little picnic on our way from South Lake Tahoe to Tahoe City. It was an opportunity for a beautiful stroll in the trees and along the beach. A museum help us see how the rich visited and entertained back in the day. Recommend you take a few minutes to check it out or if you have more time stay for the volunteer talks and tours. Wonderful place.

Very nice folk at this historic site with several wonderful old millionaires homes and guest cottages on the shore of sout Lake Tahoe. We worth the stop. No charge. Fantastic. The people there are just wonderful and full of information. Nice gardens and yards, vintage furniture and musical instruments, interesting old boat house with railroad tracks to bring the watercraft inside.Well worth the stop.

The site is quite large. We were there for 2 hours and only had time to walk thru the Anita Baldwin Cottage and the Baldwin Estate and Museum. The view of the Lake Tahoe was fantastic from both buildings. The grounds outside the cottage contained a Native Garden of natural food and medicinal plants. The cottage displayed period artifacts and a display about Anita Baldwin. The Baldwin Estate also displayed period artifacts and had a Museum in one wing.We need to go back to see the rest of the site. What an excuse for a nice relaxing day!

Relaxing walk, good for all ages and abilities including handicapped. Interesting history and the volunteer staff is always willing to share their knowledge.

Walked through this area and read about it and walked out to the beach from the main building. Looks like an excellent place for a wedding or party. Quiet and way off the road.

Beautiful views from the beach area! Nice to learn some history about the first visitors/residence to Lake Tahoe!

Would have like to see the inside, but apparently after September a lot of things close down. Pretty from the outside though and was able to read the history of the buildings on plaques outside

A nostalgic tour of these historic estates takes you back a 100 years. Makes you wonder how they vacationed without our modern conveniences?

We went to the Historic site and were really impressed with the site that Mr Baldwin picked along Lake Tahoe. He was obviously very rich like the Hearst's, Rockefeller's, and the Huntington's. He had refrigeration at the turn of the century and lived a comfortable but not an obvious lavish lifestyle. The tour we took told us about how he loved guests to his place and really took great care of them. There are a lot of trees, picnic benches, and easy hiking trails on the property. Peaceful setting and beautiful views of the Lake on his property, not quiet as far to Emerald Bay from South Tahoe.

The history was great, the grounds amazing! Wish we would have had more time to explore. And wish The Pope House would have been open for tours.

Going back in time to 1920. We had a tour by James who was knowledgeable and taught us how life was in in that time. There are restored homes and several servants buildings displayed with time period furniture, clothing, personal items of servants who worked for the wealthy families of the estates. Can't wait to go back to the Great Gatsby Days the 2nd week in August. A speakeasy, vintage cars, period live music, tours, kids games, and all volunteers in costume. Fun, fun, fun. A new display of an 1870's bridal gown will be shown.

Went here in late September. They were getting ready to close for the season. You could visit the museum (free) and walkmaround the three differenf estates, but the Polk house was already closed for the season.

This visit turned out to be very educational and fun. We spent lots of time here, leaving just before closing, to make sure we saw everything, but at a nice slow pace. The entire place was like going back in tine in a most spectacular setting. It was free, too. Glad we had time to bvisit here as it was one of the highlightsof our Tahoe stay.

Take a bike ride and tour the wonderful experience of seeing the rustic buildings and log cabins and a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe.

Love to look back in time at the way people lived before the age of electronics. Everything about this site was great except the fact that the tours were done for the year. Closed my eyes & imagined summering on the lake while my servants did all the work.
