Fabulous place to go alone or in a group. Good maps, be prepared for some good hills. French trail to orchard is a super workout and shady. Don't forget your water bottle. Prince and stream - where they meet - you likely will find covered with lady bugs. They're their a couple times a year. East trail is a favorite for dog walkers - many of whom ignore their dogs so be prepared for frisky ones jumping up. Redwood trees galore - it's a peaceful retreat during the quieter week days.

A beautiful, less crowded way to see redwoods in the area . Tall beautiful trees for gorgeous for relaxing in nature or photography opportunities.

We were amazed at how quickly you can go from Oakland into this green oasis. There are trails and paved paths for walking and biking, and beautiful trees. It seems to be very popular with families on weekends.

Fairly easy hiking on wide trails through Redwoods and Pines. Watch out for the cyclists who, at times, crowd the trails. Some nice views in spots of San Francisco and the bay.

There is a network of good trails. One can take a loop of 4-5 miles going uphill to near the top of a ridge, along the ridge than back along the stream. You are almost always in shade from large redwoods and some other varieties. March-October weekends they charge $5 for parking. One can park on the road and walk. There are some toilets and water is available. Its about 5 miles from Moraga

This might be the most exquisite place to visit in Oakland. Various micro-climates allow you to hike under ancient Oak trees, or on a hillside covered with indigenous Bay Trees. These Bay Trees have tremendous oil quality that make the fragrance magical on a warm day. You can hike along the west ridge and plunged into the canyon below and be among towering Redwoods in a few minutes. You need to be careful of dogs here, people tend to walk with their dogs off-leash and for some reason seem to think that everyone else wants their animals to jump on them. Also mountain bikers speed around the main trails, but dozens of trails are closed to mountain bikers. The views of Mount Diablo in the distance are wonderful and you can get great vistas of endless park land extended to Anthony Chabot park in the south. This park is a wonderful place to get lost in for hours on end. Their is only water at a few spots, and if you go out on the East Ridge their will be no water and no toilets.Occasionally you will see Coyote in the park, or Golden Eagles or Hawks soaring overhead. If you hike down the old Mill Trail you may be lucky enough to see one of the Owls that live in the trees above.

The best redwood forest is in Northern California, but for those only visiting San Francisco this provides an excellent introduction to their size and majesty. Truly inspiring to walk beneath these towering giants.

This area, as well as the East Bay Parks offers families areas for picnics, hiking, dog friendly areas. The views of the Bay Area and surrounding hills is wonderful.

Great well kept trails, dog friendly with beautiful land views. Trails can be short or long, hard or easy and provide miles of open land.

I suggest getting a guide or map before setting off. Early in the day is always fresh and best! Enjoy with family and friends. The best dog walk area for your Zen buddy.

Great hiking with family and the dog, parts of park are off leash which is great. Spectacular settings and trails. A must for nature lovers.

I love coming here with my dog, lots of shade, miles of trails with different levels of difficulty. Parking usually isn't too bad, but I go on off hours.

Redwood Regional is indeed unique for this area. Plenty of East Bay parks have nice combinations of creek trails for cool shade and ridge trails for views, but the redwoods and rainforest-like climate are unique to this park. The trees are big and spectacular, for sure, but contrary to some reviews, most are only 150 years old since this area was clear-cut not long after the gold rush. The West Ridge trail has some nice views but is busy since it has so many access points, as is the Stream trail. in between is the French trail, hugging the slopes so it is quite a bit more challenging and has less traffic. The paths linking the bottom Stream trail to either of the Ridge trails, like Fern, Orchard and Canyon, are all quite challenging and have even less traffic. Quite worthwhile. If you're on the Walnut Creek side of the East Bay, come into Redwood Regional via Moraga and Canyon to Pinehurst Road for a beautiful but twisty drive.Water and restrooms are available at major staging areas and a few of the internal picnic areas. On weekends with nice weather show up early or you'll struggle to find parking. Plan to picnic in the park.

You need to spend some time exploring this park. I was on my mountain bike and met a guy who showed me some illegal mountain bike trails, so in other words they were hiking only trails. I got to see a large portion of the park on my bike, I wish I had more time to explore more of the park. Great place to visit for the day, try finding the legal trails, because the hikers get angry with mountain bikers for riding where they shouldn't. I don't regret riding there because I rode one of the best ever single track trails in my life!

If you need to get back in touch with nature and stay close to home, it's all about Redwood Regional Park. After a short drive you can feel like you are a million miles away. Walking the trails and exploring the trees is a perfectly relaxing way to spend a day. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it. It is beautiful.
