Fun to do a wine tasting and a great place to bring a picnic and spend the afternoon. We go once in a while and have always had a nice time. The winery doesn't have it's own vineyard but the area is very pretty and a bit secluded. Super friendly dogs running around. A relaxing side trip when in the Ojai/Ventura area. The Petite Syrah is very good.
It's a lovely winery with a lovely tasting room, lots of great wines (a lot of unknown Portuguese and Spanish varietals). Mike, the wine maker, is friendly and welcoming. There is a great area for the picnic outside completed with friendly dogs. Going there would make a relaxing beginning of your day in Ojai (downtown is about 7 min away) or a relaxing outing for a brunch on a Sunday.
Just about the only winery and tasting room in the Ojai area, this was a pleasant find. Off the road a bit, but worth it. We were here on a cool, damp day, so we were just about the only ones there. But, we were told the place is packed with picnickers on a warm weekend. We believe it as the grounds are spacious and it is set in a rural area. Oh, and the wines were very drinkable!
Definitely worth a stop. We were intrigued by brochure, so on our trip to Ojai from Ventura we went in. Very friendly, knowledgable folks and some really good wine. The visit had a very 'personal' feel to it. The ranch grounds,, fire place and relaxed atmosphere was very enjoyable. We plan to return in a few weeks
We've been to a lot of pretentious tastings in Napa and Sonoma, but this is something else entirely. The winery is located at the end of the dead end road and has a great funking feel; dogs wandering around, picnic tables, great views. But inside, the folks know their wines. I don't think that $10 for 10 wines is such a bad deal. We ordered some wine and the cost of the tasting was comped. I really felt like the folks here were interested in educating as much as selling wine. We really enjoyed ourselves, and ordered wine mostly to remind ourselves of this place from time to time. There is no food for purchase here, but it would be great place to bring a picnic lunch, which is encouraged.
The winery is in a beautiful setting near Ojai. It was a lovely sunny day in December. Our server was Devin and he did a wonderful job. He was informative and friendly, explaining all the wines with passion and enthusiasm. We shared a tasting between the two of us and enjoyed the wines, but for us the setting was the best. We sat outside on the deck afterwards, just enjoying the quiet and the lovely day. Because it was the weekend we also got to taste wines from Vino V at the same location. Thank you Laura for your info. If you buy 2-3 bottles at each location, the tasting is free.
This ranch is in a gorgeous setting near Ojai. We did the wine tasting with Claudia, and she was very personable and knowledgeable. We also got to chat with the owner, who has an incredible knowledge of the entire wine making process. I really enjoyed the red wines that we sampled. The wine tasting is fun, but the best part was enjoying a leisurely picnic lunch on the grounds with a bottle of their wine.
I organised a group visit with Michael via phone/email. He was easy to work with and was very gracious when we turned up on the day, especially since we had reduced in number. He was busy working out in the fields, but came over to say hello and give us some background on the winery, introduced us to the dogs, showed us the picnic tables he had set out with tablecloths, and let us know that Claudia was waiting in the tasting room for us when we were ready.Claudia was very informative and easy to work with, a great sense of humour, and helped us all understand the wine tasting process. Some of us were new to it and needed a little more explanation than the rest and she was very helpful. The wines were fantastic. Quite a few of us bought bottles to take home, especially one of the reds (2nd last on the list can't remember the name of it).The area is beautiful, with a lawn and picnic tables, or a deck with tables and chairs. The dogs are very friendly and want to play ball with you. Jasper the disabled dog was a joy to watch as he rolled on his back in the sunshine. Dog people are always kind hearted, and Michael and his co-workers are definitely dog people. Running a great winery, making great wine, and sharing their special place in the world with others. Visit. You will have a great experience!
Myself and some friends spent a few days in Ojai and decided to try wine tasting. Thank goodness we checked out The Old Creek Ranch! Michael(the wine maker) was there to talk us through all of the wines that he creates, all of which were delicious. He's a great guy too, both welcoming and very interesting. The ranch is in such a beautiful spot, I really didn't want to leave!
Great tasting experience and very knowledgeable staff. The wines are a good selection of the varietals in the Ventura valley. It's rustic and so authentic too! Met some friendly locals who were equally enthralled with the wines.
It was nice to stop in and try new wines, the grounds were beautiful and relaxing it made for a great picnic. It is always nice to see my old friend (Rich B.) who works in the tasting room.
Nice tasting at Old Creek with Andrew. Mellow atmosphere, nice wine, good conversation and super close to Ventura. Moto Vino tshirts are cool, too.
We are sorry you had a bad experience – it was obviously not our intent. The chalkboard sign outside ($5) you refer to is for our Winemaker’s personal label Vino V Wines – we share the tasting room and he normally only pours his wines on the weekend. If the sign was out on a Monday, I understand your confusion. If asked, the tasting room attendant could have clarified things.Regarding the pour size, we pour the industry standard 1 ounce per wines and we ask at the end of the tasting if the customer would like to “revisit” a favorite wine. This is our normal protocol. We pride ourselves on the quality of our wines and on customer service. For you to take the time to write a review that does not reflect this means a lot to us. Please accept our apologies and we offer you a tasting for you and a guest, on us, to try us out again.
My husband and I travel with our dogs all the time and it's wonderful to find a dog friendly winery, since we both enjoy wine tasting. Old Creek has a lot of outdoor space to enjoy the wine and they encourage people to pack a picnic. We truly enjoyed ourselves and if we're back in the area, will definitely stop by and enjoy the wine and the beautiful scenery.
I loved the atmosphere, very warm, family or couple friendly. There is outdoor benches and takes for lunch, trees, family dogs and a lawn. Very cute setting :-) I would stay all day if I could, I now go once a month just for a breath of fresh air
